Getting an animal's picture is frustrating

Sorry for semi-pointless topic but who else has trouble with it?

The last time I got a villager pic was back in Wild World with Punchy. (After that I didn't play AC avidly for years. I did start again recently though.)

I didn't remember exactly how difficult it was. It would make sense to be extra difficult, but the thing is, Merengue doesn't ask me to do chores that much, and when she does, I'm playing as my side character. (*sighs* Just my luck, right?). I did get a chance to give her a rare fish as my main character once! But I'm also worried that the process of becoming best friends is so difficult, that the giving of the rare fish was barely worth even a fraction of the total friendship points I need.

Also, random question. Though I haven't done it in a while, does time traveling a few days into the future and back effect friendship just a little bit, or a whole LOT? (With TT'ing, you're basically going a few days without talking to them)

I did the time traveling thing because I'm impatient and wanted my trees to grow in a single day. Hoping that didn't take a toll on my friendship with Merengue and my other villagers.

hey there

do you send letters, attach gifts in the letter, everyday to merengue on your major character? thats how you increase friendship levels with a villager. Talk to her everyday and after you have wrote her several letters with gifts she will ask favors from you! A lot of pics I got in the mail. peanut is the only one who gave me her picture directly! But yes letters really help!

Getting a villager's picture takes time, and from what it seems, some personality types are much harder to befriend, like Snooty or Crank, and some are easier, like Peppy.

Anyway, here's my advice to getting pictures:

-Talk to that villager every day. Even just little chit-chat helps.

-Write long letters. At least three lines worth of text.

-Send gifts. Check out thonky.com for specific gifts that villager will like. Likewise when they ask you for furniture, get them something that would be on their "wishlist."

-Get them rare fish and bugs if they ask for something.

-If they ask for fruit, always give them a perfect fruit. If they want a specific type of fruit and you can't get a perfect fruit, it's better to give them what they asked for rather than ignore their requests.

-Never push them! Ever! An accidental bump happens, but don't purposefully push them out of your way.

-Do as many of their requests as possible, definitely play hide and seek if they ask.

-Generally it takes about a month to get their pictures by doing all of the above.

To answer your question if TT affects your progress with friendships with your villagers, from my experience, no not at all, so you should be ok! As everyone else said, if you want a photo from your villager, write letters and attached wrapped up gifts (I always make sure to add the words "friend" and "gift" or "present"; they understand those words), talk to them every single day, help them out with task (if they want a fruit, get a perfect fruit, if they want something for their house, make sure you get a rare bug/fi****em), and that should be it!

Also when it comes to tasks, I noticed my villagers always ask me to do them a favorite at 11 AM or 2-3 PM, so give that a try! If you wanna do it the super easy way though, just TT or wait for April Fool's Day; that's a quick way to get a villager's photo.

It does take time but its all worth it! Just speaking to the villager and doing their tasks can help alot! Writing thoughtful letters is also good! Once you get them to max friendship you will get photos frequently! I have gotten Bettina's photo over 9 times by now hahaha! Its a great symbol of friendship so I am happy to get them all! If you want to get photos easier just wait until April 1st which is april fools day and if you know your friends and answer a question correctly you get their photo for free on April Fools!

Something else that might help is checking your luck. If you can consult Katrina or have the lovely phone item you might be told about whether you're having good or bad friendship luck. So you could wait for a good friendship day & wear the lucky item to boost your chances of a picture.

Also I've noticed that if you give them furniture that's been customised they tend to be pretty happy about that.

Same here, for some reason New Leaf is the game I find the hardest to get the villagers' pictures, I have been playing since 2013 and managed to get around... 7 legit villagers pics more or less ^^'
At least during April Fools you can easily get the pictures of all your current villagers, but it doesn't feel as good.

There's actually a pretty easy way to get villager's pictures! If you play the april fools day event with blanca and you guess who the imposter is correctly (its honestly practically impossible to do without a guide though) the villager gives you their pictures after!
