I've been playing since launch and promised my 11yo niece a new Switch Lite with AC for her birthday. I'll be visiting and hanging out with her for the day and I'm wondering what items I should drop on her new island to give her the best head start. All ideas welcome!

I agree with fruit. :)

Fruit can help her begin making friends with her islanders.

Beyond that, maybe a small housewarming present? A piece of furniture in her favorite color / colors?

Part of the joy of this game is, in my honest opinion, the exploration and learning-as-you-go and so I would personally hesitate giving away anything more complex or advanced.

Happy birthday!!!

Foreign fruit! That’s always a good gift to give to people who just started their journey
Thank you! It's such a simple thing that never occurred to me!

Definitely fruit, and if you want to really give her a leg up you could drop off some tools and resources, too.
Thank you! I was thinking a couple of the basic tools she won't get for a bit as an extra special birthday bonus (shovel, ladder, vault pole)

Foreign fruit and possibly flowers? The other things she can get in time, so those two should be ok to start!
Thank you. I appreciate the reminder about the journey being half the fun. It seems like a lifetime ago I was tenting it!

foreign fruit and tools would help a lot. a vaulting pole could be especially helpful to reach the rocks and other resources spread across the island
Thank you for the reply! I was thinking a vaulting pole, ladder, and shovel recipe could be her extra special birthday advances. I don't want to spoil the game trajectory for her, but she does have close cousins who already have the game.

Fruit, flowers and some bells could always help! Otherwise tools are useful! Some nice clothing sets could be nice as well

Thank you! This is so insightful and helpful. She's not a small child and totally capable of carving her own path. It's good to be reminded that we all need the journey in AC

maybe a little to spoonfeed-y, but maybe iron nuggets since collecting 30 at the start was pretty rough lol
I'll be honest, I don't even remember having to get 30 - I just know that now I wish half of those iron nuggets would turn into stones 🤣

Maybe the starter DIY's from Nook's Cranny.

Foreign fruits, some hybrid flowers, tools, and your extra diys would be great starting gifts for your niece

Like everyone else, I would say foreign fruit and a vaulting pole and a ladder. I wish I had one when I first started out, and it will help her get around her island earlier. You could always gift her some bells too so that it's easier for her to get out of her tent, and to purchase resources and things she needs from Timmy and Tommy and Mable when she comes to town. Doesn't have to be a crazy amount, but a little bit to get her started. :)

Thanks so much for the input. I really appreciate it!

I do think the iron nuggets is a good idea if you're not hurting for them, because the shop is gated behind them (they want 30 iron nuggets to build the store), and farming them can be very difficult early on. So it just can be the difference between getting the shop built (and the storyline progressed) in a day or not. Up to you whether the pacing is good or not for her, I think. Don't necessarily give 30, just a few (and maybe hint not to sell them immediately).

Other than that, I think the advice you got is great! I hope she has a wonderful time.
