Gardening as a viable way of making money?

Father's Day Carnation
In the trailer for New Horizons, there is a quick shot of the player harvesting bulbs off of a tulip flower, rather than the whole plant itself. It can be assumed that the flower will re-grow and bloom again, but it isn't certain how many days it could take.

This raises a few questions for me, the biggest one is: Could gardening have the potential to be a good source for making Bells?

In previous entries, like New Leaf, some flowers can be sold for decent prices, the most expensive ones to my knowledge being blue and gold roses which sell for 2,500 each. However, producing hybrid flowers tended to take too much time for me to consider gardening a good moneymaking method.

However, it looks like we can harvest the flowers without uprooting them here. This depends on a few factors, but I think we can potentially set up and harvest big groups of flowers and sell them in bulk for cash this way. This could make gardening and producing hybrids more useful beyond decorating your island and improving town rating.

What are your thoughts about this?

i'm not sure. since the watering can is still a thing i definitely think flowers will still be able to wilt.

i predict the flowers in ACNH will work more like perfect fruit trees do in ACNL. they'll continue to regrow buds until after a certain number of cycles the plant may begin to wilt. you can either let them die or water them to restart the budding and it just repeats like that. hopefully making rarer hybrids has higher chances but i doubt that.

That's not how flowers work.

However, I think if you take care of the flowers for a long time, then pick it up, maybe it will produce more Bells.

I've made a little graphic about what I could observe from the trailer about the growth of the tulips. NEW HORIZONS PLANT STAGES MAYBE.jpg

Yeah I get the whole thing about harvesting flowers and then waiting for them to grow so that you can harvest them again. That way it could be a fun alternative to earn money early in the game.

Here's the thing though, flowers don't really work that way? Typically a plant only blooms once a year and some even take two years before they have any flowers. Then there are plants that outright die after having bloomed just once. It wouldn't really make sense if the flowers in the game kept blooming over and over.

Sure this is a game and not restricted by any physics laws in our world but I feel like this would be too much of a deviation to be put in the game.

Having plants bear flowers indefinitely like in previous games is also not accurate to real life flowers but if they're going for realism by making them have growth stages then at least make it realistic. Not like this.

I would absolutely LOVE this, realism be damned xD
The game overall would benefit from more viable income sources in my opinion, and gardening is something I really enjoy (in-game) as both an activity and for aesthetic purposes.

I hope we get more flower varieties to plant, and would like to see some depth added to gardening in general.
Maybe higher quality or new types of flowers based on where and when (season/time of day) they've been planted? Crafting different fertilizers? Talking to plants? Yes please! ^o^

I would actually like this a lot. More ways to make bells and more chores are always a huge plus to me!

I agree with the perfect fruit theory, that seems like a good compromise. Infinite flowers would be a bit silly. I really like the idea as an alternative to fruit tree farming!
