Games You Try To Avoid?

Just mobile games honestly. Even Animal Crossing and Mario Kart. Rather Nintendo would just shift their to main games for switch. Would have tried Pocket Camp but fear it may mess up NH for me. :/
It probably wouldn't. Pocket Camp has only a passing resemblance to any of the mainline Animal Crossing games from the standpoint of gameplay to the point of being extremely shallow. It's basically just a bunch of cobbled together assets from the previous games and shoved into a barely coherent mobile game. Though I do enjoy certain aspects of it, it's a game that is extremely hard to actually recommend, because it requires essentially being able to ignore every principle of logistical design and requires that you really enjoy what is just a small portion of the game (decorating your campsite, cabin, and RV) enough to put up with the grind of the rest of the game.

But it probably won't impact your playtime on New Horizons or any mainline Animal Crossing game.

Good thing Nintendo said to take a step from mobile gaming. It's also something I keep away from. Most are just full of microtransactions and also the controls feel terrible with most games.

The Persona and Danganronpa series because I find both to be extremely overrated and the gameplay boring.
Sue me.
i've always thought of danganronpa as underrated lol.

anyways, as for a game i try to avoid, that would be league of legends. it's an awful and toxic environment that ruins friendships. i also have severe trauma linked to playing it with someone who i don't talk to anymore, so there's that also.

Basically all mobile games. I'm already on my phone too much and I don't need more reasons to be staring at screens all day. Not to mention micro-transactions which I am completely against. I did try Pocket Camp but it juts felt really tedious and just reminded me I could play a normal AC game.

Harvest Moon games. Took my a while to say "I'm a Story of Seasons' fan" instead of "Harvest Moon fan". Still not over what they did with the franchise.

Most FPS and RPG games. I just don't like either genre.

Fortnite and mobile games, everything else is okay for me I'm not really that picky with videogames tbh

Love Valorant and League

I try to avoid games that give me a headache personally. Like you say minecraft, I could easily play that game for hours but some times, usually each time I play, I'll start a headache and need to leave the screen.

I'm not personally into first-person shooter games, just not my forte, I really prefer Nintendo's franchises: Legend of Zelda, Mario, Kirby, Star Fox, Pokemon games, Sonic (only games I own are solely on Nintendo consoles) These games to me are more fun, easy to come back to, probably not much different from the last installment but fun to try out and enjoy

I also try to avoid games that people get easily competitive with. Super Smash Bros. is the exception, I love that series a lot.
I mean sometimes it's funny but when you're screaming at me over the phone or discord about killing me, how bad I am at the game, or whatever the case may be. I'm a sensitive soul so your yelling makes me think you're a freak if you truly, truly get angry about it

Probably Fortnite. I've been told to try it out for god knows how many times now, because apparently it's fun and all, but I'm just not into such games at all. The Persona series is also not really appealing to me.

It's hard to make statements about whole broad categories because there's a lot of exceptions. A lot of people on this thread mentioned mobile games, but the things that bother most people about them (microtransactions, repetitiveness, etc.) aren't universal to all mobile games -- mobile is just the platform, not a genre. There's some really good mobile games that imo make really good use of the format. I played Bury Me, My Love a while ago and it blew my mind.

Besides, I tend to like a lot of different things about games. I'm not usually a big fan of shooters because so many of them feel repetitive and generic to me, but I've played shooters or games with shooting elements that I liked because something just held my interest.

The games I come closest to avoiding are hypercompetitive online games (Overwatch, Leage of Legends, Fortnite, etc.) because they seem to attract a lot of very toxic people who are way too invested in the game. Even then, I'd probably give them a try if I had friends who liked them and I could play with them exclusively.

And Roblox. I'm too old for that nonsense and so much of it seems like trash designed to turn naive kids into a cash cow. I hate that.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive. I love the game but playing it is basically like gambling on roulette. You can get a really awful roll and get the most toxic teammates or get a team that communicates well and steamroll the match. I'll find myself avoiding it for months and then playing it A LOT until I get about 5 games of toxic teammates in a row, then take another long break.

Are there any games you try to avoid playing at all, and what are your reasons for doing so.

I personally try to avoid playing Minecraft, because it gives me a headache and nausea after 1-2 hours of playing it. I usually then feel kind of lightheaded for the next few hours after playing.

I thought I was the only one that experienced that when I used to play that with a former friend. I was so bad at that too.

I have Fate/Extella; I got it mostly for the collector’s stuff. I knew I probably wouldn’t like it because dynasty warriors never appealed to me. I was right and the story was extremely disappointing. A few times I was tempted to look into pirate warriors even though it was similar; I love One Piece and like hearing the japanese voice actors, but I have stayed strong. It helps that I can’t afford games or anything right now.

Assassin’s Creed - I have a few to finish. I love the series and story - at least from 1-Brotherhood and part of Revelations, but they were releasing new ones too soon for me. I have these encyclopedias too and they spoiled me a bit on three, so I was honestly disappointed so much that the main character changes since I liked the dad better than what I heard about the son.

Dragon Age - love the series but I need to finish Inquisition’s dlc and I’m still burnt out from farming so heavily and playing it over and over. Plus, my favorite writers quit Bioware, so, kinda worried about the direction it’s taking since they added multiplayer and Inquisition’s single player could have been so much better (like the mount movement was messed up; horses do not jump like they make then in the game). Also, I am really done with EA games or I’m trying to be since dealing with their crap support with Fifa and the sims 3, gave me too much stress and head aches.

Smart choice on Overwatch. I used to play it and had good experiences until I got into ranking matches; a lot of times my teammates would leave the bases and not work together, so i’d be the only one defending. or people quitting early.

I'm not interested in games with monthly subscription fees or microtransactions. I don't like most sports games either.

In general I prefer single player games. The online community of many games feels so toxic. I just don't want to be part of it at all.

Despite loving horror, I tend to avoid playing horror games because most of them rely on jump scares and/or chase sequences. The ones that I have played I did so with careful consideration and a ton of research.

Any FPS or perspective-changing games are off the table (I started a thread about it but yeah, boo motion sickness).

I'm trying to avoid games with microtransactions because I fall for that kind of stuff really easily.

I don't think I'm actively avoiding a franchise/game in particular though. Just gotta wait for something that doesn't put me out of commission for the rest of the day.

Oh wow same!! I love horror plots but absolutely hate how most people execute it. I want to be properly spooked, not have a heart attack just because something jumped at my screen. I'm easily surprised, horror or not, so I hate how I can't enjoy a ton of horror things. If you have any horror game recommendations that don't have jumpscares lmk!!

Games I tend to avoid are strategy games (e.g. Civilization) because I'm so bad at thinking haha. That also goes for most competitive team games like DoTA or LoL.

I like FPS games surprisingly, but I'm too soft to get into online & team plays haha. I used to destress by playing Left 4 Dead 2. Tried playing with friends once and my internet Did Not Agree.
