Game Reset the Time?

I have a new 3ds xl and while the 3ds was in sleep mode, i accidentally knocked it over and the battery popped out. I just put it back in and then about a hour later I decided to play Animal Crossing and all of a sudden I saw villagers wearing party hats on the title screen. The time was set to the first of January 2012. I have CFW (Luma 3DS) so I was thinking maybe that has something to do with it? I'm scared to time travel to the current date in case all my villagers move out, but i haven't actually entered the town yet so I don't know if that will count (the same way plot resetting works)

TLDL: If I time travel forwards after the game reset the clock will it still act like I haven't played in years and I will have villagers move out?

From what I've read, it's normal for a DS to reset to "factory time" whenever the battery is disturbed. If you haven't actually loaded up your New Leaf game, then just setting the DS clock to the current time should put everything back to normal and your AC game should be fine since it uses whatever time the DS is set at.

Yeah it worked, I've never messed with the DS time, only the Animal Crossing one.
