  • Tent: Free (4 by 4 squares)
  • Initial House: 10,000 bells including down payment (4 by 4 squares)
  • 1st Ground Floor Expansion: 32,000 Bells (upgraded to 6 by 6 squares)
  • 2nd Ground Floor Expansion: 98,000 Bells (upgraded to 8 by 8 squares)
  • Second Story: 198,000 Bells (4 by 4 squares)
After the second story is constructed, the player may choose to expand existing rooms or construct additional rooms, in any order:

  • 1st Second Story Expansion: 498,000 (upgraded to 6 by 6 squares)
    • 2nd Second Story Expansion: 598,000 (upgraded to 8 by 8 squares)
  • Basement: 428,000 Bells (4 by 4 squares)

Also, technically you don't have to pay off your last loan since the house will be all the way expanded. =P

Indeed.
If you don't care about the gold exteriors you can save that last 598k.
