Does anyone ever dig holes around villagers you want to see interact to force them to talk to each other??
I love seeing my villagers talk, but it often takes forever to see them talk, especially if I want two villagers in particular to talk, so I'll occasionally trap them with holes so that they can't really do anything besides talk. Not very often though since it takes a lot of effort, but y'know.

(If you look at my avatar picture, you can actually see some holes around Opal and Felicity... heh)

Never thought of doing that, but my town is filled with flowers so I probably wouldn't be able to anyway. It disappoints me a lot that villagers barely interact with each other on this game. It seemed like villagers talked to each other whenever they got near each other on the original AC.

It is so frustrating at how RARE it is for two villagers to talk to each other.

They can be walking RIGHT INTO one another, and still no talking.

I don't know if I would dig holes, but I can understand the desperation. :)

I absolutely agree, I haven't played either of the console games but I play Wild World and one of the big things that keeps me going back to it despite New Leaf having plenty of MAJOR improvements is that the villagers are so chatty with each other. In New Leaf, sometimes villagers will be so close that they have to push each other out of the way to keep walking and I won't even see them talk to each other for weeks, while in Wild World, if I see two villagers close enough to be on screen at the same time, it's almost a guarantee that they will stop to chat.

I have considered doing this but I think I'm quite lucky with my villagers interacting quite frequently. Although it's nowhere near as much as I'd like...more conversations between them or something would be great. I tend to push them together more than anything

I'm guilty of doing this, but I just wanted to see a cute conversation between Erik and Fauna that didn't even happen :(

Never dug holes around the villagers. I usually get them when I'm fishing or busy with the flowers. They are like kids trying to get moms attention. Last night it was Big Top with a blowtorch VS Paula with a microscope. They asked me to picked I said equal so I didn't get into trouble. Nice to get a new conversation after 3 years of playing the game.

What'd be cool would be that villagers could have their own friendship ladders (maybe they already do, I'm not sure). The higher the ladder, the more likely it is for them to be in each other's homes, nearby each other, deliver presents, etc. But most importantly...
THOSE DARN CONVOSATIONS.

when you do the diving trick villagers talk to eachother all the time! its much more efficient if you wanna listen up on some conversations but the villagers they talk to are whoevers nearby. just this week ive probably stopped by 10 conversations!

I would feel creepy pushing them into each other, so I just let it happen naturally, but I do wish they would converse more often. Sounds like I'm lucky on this front, though ? my villagers already talk a decent amount. Sometimes they talk too much while I'm trying to PWP farm, and when I come to talk to whoever's supposed to be pinging me, they're singing and skipping or they've got swirls of sadness over their head.

My villagers always talk on bridges so if I want to see them talk I can usually hang there for a bit and they'll strike up a convo. I only ever trap anybody though if I need them to ping me for something, like a stubborn villager who someone else tells me is moving but they themselves wont ping me. >:[

Listening in on conversations was one of my favorite things in Wild World. I'm really disappointed there isn't much chatting in Mew Leaf!

Haha I never thought of trapping them with holes to make them talk, none of my villagers talk to each other.. But I recently started again so maybe that explains why.
