Foreign Language Movies

Just watched Ran recently. Amazing Kurosawa film.

Oh yeah, it's pronounced "RAHN," not "RAN" like the English word, since "RAN" is Japanese for "revolt."

I saw The 400 Blows in French class. It was excellent. Another good one is La Vie en Rose.

An additional live action foreign movie I like is A Tale of Two Sisters. It's Korean psychological horror, but also kinda sad.

OMG, I love The 400 Blows! It's one of my absolute favourite movies of all time!

Yeah, I mentioned it because I saw it in your signature. The French class I watched it in was actually 2 years ago, so I haven't seen it recently.

Still want to mention Ran once again, because of how excellent this movie is, and how ridiculously hard it is to find this movie. I was lucky to find it at my local library.

In the Mood for Love.

One of Wong Kar-wai's best Hong Kong flicks. Though I didn't think it was as great as Chungking Express, I still enjoyed this one.

I've seen quite a few because I'm a film student, and my favourites that I've seen are Amelie and Pan's Labyrinth. Studio Ghibli films are awesome too, my favourite foreign animation films by far.

Any of you people here seen The Virgin Spring? the full movie's on YouTube. It's one of the best Swedish movies out there, just putting it out.

Just wanted to post this BEAUTIFUL trailer.
Looking from the trailer, I was impressed! It was weird about what the girl was doing near the end... but overall, I really want an English release! Sub or dub, I really don't care. I heard it will play at the Venice Film Festival. If any of you are in France and have actually seen the brink of the full cup of great reviews, I think it would be a good idea to watch this film :) Yet again, Hayao did an amazing job!

A few great chilean movies that I can think of are,

  • No
  • La nana
  • Violeta se fue a los cielos

Oh, and a couple of great french films which I loved,

  • J'ai tu? ma m?re
  • Dans ton sommeil
  • L'illusionniste and Les Triplettes de Belleville (both animated)
  • Alphaville

Anything by Cuar?n (my favorite being Children of Men) and anything by Almod?var (particularly, Todo sobre mi madre, Hable con ella, La piel que habito).

Another great japanese animated movie (besides everything by Ghibli) is The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

Ooh, I loved The Girl Who Leapt Through Time! It was so funny, happy, and heartbreaking at the same exact time :D

It broke my heart :( Seriously, one of the most touching movies I've ever seen (and one of my personal favorites). I have the manga as well (though I strongly recommend watching the movie first).
