Foreign Language Movies

I LOVE Pan's Labyrinth. I actually really like watching foreign movies because I like to be able to see a bit of other cultures.

I can't resist putting this movie again, even though I've obviously put it here so many times, but here goes:

The Virgin Spring

One of the most amazing Swedish films you can imagine, from one of my filmmaking heroes, Ingmar Bergman. I remember this film for all its glory, and I remember that Wes Craven even remade (or, kinda ripped it off) it as The Last House on the Left.

I watch Japanese animated films all the time. I'll go with live action ones.

My boyfriend is type b - Korean romantic comedy
When romance meets destiny - Korean romantic comedy
seducing mr perfect - Korean romantic comedy
aaand my favorite, Tada, Kimi o Ai shi teru, a Japanese romance.

I can't think of any that I have watched, but I would like to watch some Spanish or Mexican movies since I'm learning Spanish.

I'll give any film a go regardless of language. :)

I may need to check this one out. I've become quite interested in Swedish media / pop culture over the past few months. :)

You DO need to check it out. It's in fact one of my favourite foreign movies, as well as one of my favourite movies of all time.

Favorite directors who are not from English-speaking countries:

Jean- Pierre Jeanet (despite that his version of Alien wasn't great, but his other movies are well done to me-- like Delicatessen!) He actually started off studying animation. Hence, this explain some of the cartoonish elements in his some of his films. Even with Marc Caro.
Wong Kar Wai- his stuff are sad and romantic. Lots of rich colors in his works.
Ingmar Bergman- very strong visuals with abstract subjects.

Kurosawa's Ran is pretty epic, I have not read/seen the play from Shakespeare. I need to see more of Akira Kurosawa movies, such as the Seven Samurai.

I really want to see the Chinese language classic, "Farewell My Concubine." I've read that it is one of the best movies of the century. (Voted by Chinese self-proclaimed cinephiles in Hong Kong)

I haven't really seen foreign movies, but I saw Shaolin Soccer a while back and omfg it's hilarious!

I've been watching anime films a lot lately. Tekkonkinkreet is one that stands out a lot. my favorite foreign film of all is a french film called Mais ne nous d?livrez pas du mal, or Don't Deliver us From Evil. It's a 1971 French film and it's stunning.

Yeeeess! I was going to write Das Boot, it was such a good movie even though at the ending you're like WWHHHYYYY???!!??

Well techincally, every English movie is one, so there's a lot of them... If not English, than I'd had to go with Spirited Away.
