Flowers EVERYWHERE- Terra forming challenges

My problem is hybrids now, I TT'ed to Novemeber to get mushrooms and now my town is overrun by black tulips/lilies, purple roses, and blue pansies x_x I hate to sell them bc I know there are people desperately trying to breed them, but I've been trying to terraform and they keep getting in the way. Might have to re-open another flower giveaway...

I spent hours removing my flowers. It had grown completely out of control and stopped me moving forward. I went through 4 shovels clearing them. Now I have 4-6 flowers of every variety (except the ones I haven't been able to breed) and will set up a hybrid breeding area that I can keep on top of.

It was exhausting having all those flowers. :D

I thankfully haven't run into this problem as I got rid of all my native flowers right at the start of the game and only started breeding hybrids after I finished most of the terraforming (cause I knew all the flowers would get in my way).

I get 50+ new hybrids everytime it rains, plus a good load of normal coloured ones, it's so overwhelming. I send them all to the island of a friend who started playing about a week ago haha, he is absolutely invaded. I guess I'll have to hold some "rainy day hybrids giveaway" when his island is full. I just sell the normal ones. I break so many shovels it's frustrating. And I don't TT, can't imagine what it must be like for serial TTers.
I got rid of all my hybrid breeding patches a while ago, but single flowers being able to clone themselves might be the reason of this invasion.
I have to make sure to dig out every new bud each time it rains or it just becomes too tedious to deal with...

yes omg. i wanna change up my island but i have so many flowers that it would take foreverrrr

I had to contain my flowers before I could terraform for this reason. It took a lot of real time and a lot of broken shovels to do so. It was quite annoying.

I honestly feel like flowers have almost become like bamboo was in NL. They spread too much and because it's more annoying to move or get rid of them, it feels like unless you don't mind unchecked flower fields, you have to take measures to keep them where you want them to be.

Yup. I've got roses everywhere. They're kind of annoying to have to dig out. Too bad you can't somehow highlight all of them and pack them into a bundle into your inventory. I know the Island Designer app has the option of clean up, but so far that has come off as useless. I was expecting a major clean up from it, unless I'm doing something wrong.

Yes omg, I have flowers all over the place. My terraforming is done now but this means my beach, which is where I moved them, is just flowers, I dont get any Manila clams because theres just too many. And they're mostly hybrids so I dont want to sell them just yet 😭🤪
Tell me about it! I got like 4 open spots on my beaches for clams to spawn. When Gulliver comes, it takes approximately 7 weeks to get just one communicator part to spawn!

This is why I was saying I want a greenhouse specifically for flower gardening and storage. Plus it would be cute!

Do you guys think it would help if they made flowers unable to replicate unless they are placed beside another flower of the same species?

When I started terraforming, I also moved as many as I could to the beaches and that helped me contain them. I didn't have as many flowers then though, of course, and there's only so much beach space. Now that I'm done with 80% of my island I'm struggling with space again, since I want to work on my beaches soon too, lol.

Yes and no, I think it's a bit of a double-edged sword. On one hand, I found replicating useful for rarer flowers that took me forever to breed just one of, so knowing they can duplicate themselves was handy.

...but yeah, on the other hand, every time it rains it does suck to have to find and dig up all the stragglers. I like my flowers placed kind of sporadically in some areas and scattered in the natural parts of my island, so those in particular are a bit of a pain after it rains.

You can put your flowers temporarily on the beach! Otherwise, maybe get rid of your basic colour flowers? If not, reduce some of your hybrid colours and when you're done terraforming, you can duplicate the hybrids you have left?

Oof, and I thought I had a lot of flowers on my beach. I would say maybe 10-15% of my beach is covered with flowers. The only reason my island isn't overrun with flowers is probably because I dig up any new flowers I find every day. I might have to think of something later.

The beach is a good place to put flowers so they don't spread. Might help with figuring out things

It’s a problem for me, I was super addicted to planting flowers, but now it’s becoming a dread having to pick them up and selling it and having broken shovels. I wish it was easier picking up flowers than digging it.

omg, terraforming with the amount of flowers I had was a nightmare. I love that they've made flowers harder to destroy/steal but it's brought a new annoyance. 😭

I learned it the hard way when TTing. A bunch of flowers grew in the place I wanted to terraform. Now I have to pick them out one by one... I have however came up with a good solution. Flower beds! Fences stop the spread of flowers, so I use LOTS of fencing. It's really helped me to focus on building, and the mini-gardens look really nice!

Yes, I have sooo many flowers right now because I'm trying to breed them. But since you can't store flowers, they're just all over my beaches, and all over any empty spaces. It makes it hard to move things around, let alone terraform. It's very overwhelming to deal with flowers :( And I don't know why they won't let us store them. It would be soooo much easier if I could put all my hybrids in storage so I have space on my island, and then terraform and design my gardens without having to fight for space and manoeuvre around my flowers :(

I've been dealing with this, too. I finally decided to get rid of almost all of my flowers I could get from seeds. I also started stockpiling seeds from Nook's and Leif so I can grow them again if I want. Some I sold to Nook's. Some I threw away. Now I put them in the box outside of Nook's. They don't sell for much, but I feel better about that than throwing them away.

I was going through 2-3 shovels a day while doing this. Since I'm low on hardwood, I bought the flimsy shovel from Nook's rather than craft it. I have hybrid beds to clone and a few that I haven't gotten yet. As I get more, I move them to back areas by color. Eventually I'll figure out how to use them around town and give away/sell the extras.

Have any of you created or found a nice foliage pattern to put between flowers and still look like it flows well?

I know I liked to have my flowers sporadic. I mean, flower beds are nice and all, but I don't like the look of them throughout the whole island. I don't want to feel boxed it, but I did quickly learn that having flowers sporadic doesn't work either lol. It is one reason why I like the clover design that the game provided from the beginning. Keeps them from spreading without fences everywhere. However, I am concerned on how it is going to look in winter.
