Flies?

Goodness, I’m having so much trouble catching a fly!! You would think it would be a simple insect to catch as it is apparently a ‘common’ spawn but I can only seem to get ants on the garbage I leave out, and I hate how it’s spoiling the look of my town and my town rating.

Does anyone have any method that worked for them? Any time of day or season that’s better (I time travel)? I’m so frustrated at this point!!

I laid a spoiled turnip outside of my house (make sure it's still far enough that opening/closing the door doesn't make it fly off!) and just walk in and out repeatedly until I found one. It definitely took me a while to get one (and for a while the turnip was too close to my house so I never even realized it would fly off when it did spawn)

That’s the method I’m doing right now, except with my town hall (so it’s far enough away that I definitely can’t scare it off). I’ve just been trying for quite a long time and seen so many ants that I wonder if I’m doing something wrong!

Yikes... well I hope you find one soon. I have a hard time believing that it's a common spawn, but I guess confirmation bias is always like that haha

I finally got one! That’s the last bug I needed for a fully complete museum!! (except for art...)

I still need a fly and an ant. I've left river trash in the past and had no luck. This time I'm sacrificing a turnip for the cause...even though my turnips have not spoiled yet...so I need to wait till Sunday for that to happen.

I found ants pretty easily once I left a spoiled turnip outside, but the fly does seem to be not as common, at least from my experience. I had a tire and a boot laying around for 3 days before I finally saw a fly on the tire.

Throw a spoiled turnip on one side of the island and just throw boots, tires. and cans on another side. I think I got my fly from a trash heap. I was fishing all day when I first got the game and just kept pulling up trash. And since I couldn't store stuff (just a tent) I tossed all the trash at the town hall thing.

I still havent seen one yet, either. I think it took my brother two days before one appeared near the trash he put. I put two cans yesterday but not one showed up. I am gonna add a tire today. I am glad that you caught it in the end, though.

Is there anything other than a turnip that will spawn ants?

I had one spawn only one at my rotten turnip I set out and it flew away by the time I noticed I was there.

It took me a while to catch a fly. I probably had over 30 trash scattered around my island when I caught one. The first one I saw flew away, the second was flying between some trash and the rotten turnip I kept around. I was pretty happy to clean that up

If you want to catch flies, leave trash outside or rotten turnips and wait.
