I have a few trash items laying on my ground but have yet to see any flies spawn on them. I have tried this time and time again since the game came out but have never seen any flies spawn on my trash. Has anyone else had this problem too? Am I doing something wrong?

So I'm not the only one? In my old save I managed to get flies with some trash just around my house, but I've tried the same in my new one and it's not working

In my experience, flies are pretty rare. It can take a week or so to find one. My recommendation is to scatter trash all over your island so they can spawn in multiple locations.

After days of being unsuccessful, the way I finally got the fly was by laying two empty cans on the beach, close to each other! The fly was actually flying back and forth between them, so I wonder if maybe it needs 2 trash items to spawn.

If the trash is too close to your house, I believe the door opening and closing will scare them away.

Interesting! I will have to try this and see how it goes.

Thanks for the tip, I didn’t realize they were so rare but it makes sense. I’d hate to overload my town with trash but I’ll do what it takes to fill up my critterpedia!

I would reccomend using a spoiled turnip. I haven't had much luck with leaving trash around

I feel like i had trash placed around for a week now with no luck! I am gonna try moving them to the beach but flies totally feel uncommon. or try turnips like others said.

Turnips bring ants, trash brings flies. I believe I used a can, but I imagine a boot or tire would work.

Turnips are actually going to have a slightly lower chance of spawning flies than trash since they can also cause ants to spawn.
I honestly haven’t caught any ants yet either so I will have to try both the turnip and the trash method to get both!

When I left my spoiled turnips out, as the other person said, flies and ants appeared quite fast for me. I'm not sure if the spawn rate is lower due to the ants, but frankly I've never seen a fly on trash at all so idk ;-;

i tried lying on the beach for a long time and eventually flies gathered around my character, your results may vary tho

I put a can and boot on the beach, thinking that the more dirty items I put out, the better chances I'll have of catching a fly. I never see a fly around. I saw one once and almost ruined that opportunity. They're too rare if you ask me.

Rotting turnips worked for me.. I got flies and ants from them...

Here was a screen grab I took. I had ants from the 1st Turnip and a Fly on the one I am aiming my net at (the turnip without the ants)... Look closely and you can see the fly.. So yeah, I had both spawn at the same time on 2 sets of Turnips..

I for the life of me cannot get a fly to spawn on either trash or spoiled turnips.

I use to leave tin cans on my beach for weeks when the game was first released, and for being a bug that spawns all day-all year, I have not seen a single fly yet
