When I was in the 8th grade, the News channel that the school broadcasted in the morning did a segment about Hatsune Miku. At the time I had no idea who that person was. They had talked about how she was a hologram, and even talked about the song she was singing in the short video: World Is Mine. I had to know what the song was, since the only songs I ever knew were American songs and only a small handful of songs from various anime. So I got on the bus that day, and a kid a few years younger than me asked, "So did you see the video about Hatsune Miku?" I told her I did, but I didn't know who she was. So she told me how there were several other vocaloids I could listen to, but that Miku was the most popular. So I looked up the only vocaloid I knew of and found the song World is Mine as one of the first results. It sounded...really strange at first. But somehow, I started loving it.
What's your story? Or y'know, how did you find out about Vocaloid?
I honestly don't remember. It was years ago, before it was known as commonly as it is today. Way before the first Project Diva game for PSP came out in Japan. I go on NicoNico sometimes (pretty much Japan's equivalent to YouTube) and that's where Vocaloid/Hatsune Miku got popular in the first place.
I know this was one of the very first Miku songs I heard.
the story of evil, my friend basically forced me to listen to it in middle school. after that i sometimes listened to a few songs if they looked interesting but i never really got into it
Alice Human Sacrifice probably doesn't count, but if it does that was probably my first. Or it was 'World is Mine', I thought Miku was really cute and I decided to listen to more of her music. I instantly fell in love, and have been a fan ever since then. I tend to listen to Luka's songs more than any other vocaloid though.
The first song I heard was Levan Polkka and I hated it. Years later though, I heard Servant of Evil and got more into the music. I mostly listen to covers of vocaloid songs now. Except for Oliver's songs
something from supercell's Major debut album, I don't even remember what at this point anymore
as for how, simply loving Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari and wanting to check out ryo's other works (at the time this was all there was... well and 2 doujin singles, but I didn't know about them at the time)
it was also the only Vocaloid music I had for quite a few years, simply because of having no clue of where to even begin to look past ryo's stuff due to the sheer number of musicians working with Vocaloids and songs available
Levan Polka by Hatsune Miku was my first one by a landslide.
Back in around 2007, I used to be a part of a large community of Pokemon fansites and many of the site owners were anime/vocaloid fans so I eventually came across that song while browsing their sites and even Pokemon videos on Youtube.
I don't remember the first song I ever heard, but if I think of the song I've been listening too since the good ol weeb days it would have to be "Imitation Black"
I was on this friendcodes forum (my first forum actually) and they had a feature where you could have a song play on your profile. One of my friends had Miku on his profile, and at the time I had no idea what it was so I asked what song it was. He said it was Packaged. I obsessed over the song for a few days and after that a major weeb phase unfolded involving me listening to nothing but Vocaloid for 2-3 years.
Now I take pride in finding some of the songs nostalgic and being able to sing most of them in both English and Japanese.
The first few I heard are, "The World is Mine" and "Kokoro" I'm not entirely sure if I typed in the correct title of each song since they were originally in Japanese and I just went by the translation and ones in brackets. My favourite is "Deep Sea Girl" and the polka theme song, I used to be very obbessed with Vocaloids
