I’ve heard that if you already a certain species you’re odds of running into that same species in on the mystery islands increase, so now I’m wondering if I already have Cookie the dog, should I go to the island and look for Goldie/Daisy or should I buy them? Do my chances really increase? I have 40 NMT and an open plot but I don’t want to wast my NMT and not find them.

Feels kind of possible now that I think of my most recent run. I thought people were saying the opposite, but maybe they were referring to personality (which I also find not true).
If it helps, that last run was literally a sheep, pig, sheep, pig (funny to me, and Dom is on my island so the sheep thing is a point). Then the game tried to push Skye on my 3 whole times (I already had 3 wolves on my island; I have all the wolf amiibos). Finally settled for Dobie anyway. This was within 20-ish tickets.

Having one of a species already doesn't really raise the odds that much. Since there are a lot of dogs, I'd recommend buying them

The chance to run into a specific species will always be 1/35 unless you have ALL of one species (i.e. all of the octopuses) then it can be 1/34

No. Not based on my experience. I have two squirrels and two cubs and in my last run, I went to 40 islands and never saw another squirrel or cub. I’m even doubting the whole species thing because seriously, whenever I go island hopping the game seems to push cows and hippos and anteaters and rats to me over and over. It’s almost like it has this algorithm where it just wants to say hey get this ugly loser villager because nobody likes them.
