Ok. im really bored and wanted a thread going so here goes

heres the plan, name 5 of your favourite punk bands(any punk sub-genres will do) in order

heres mine:

1)The Offspring
2)Blink 182
3)Green Day
4)Sum41
5)Sex Pistols

whats yours?

The first four are not punk. The first four are from an entirely different genre, one that has twisted punk into yet another form of commercial dreck.

The Sex Pistols are the quintessential punk band, but my favorite is The Clash. Although... most of my favorite songs by them hardly fit the classic punk style, they were at the forefront of the punk genre. My favorite hardcore punk band is the Dead Kennedys.

I get that, but I'm saying Green Day et al. aren't punk. They think they are, but they ain't.

Hm...

Streetlight Manifesto
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
Defiance, Ohio
Gogol Bordello
The Jeffrey Lewis Band, Crass, or Chumbawamba.

Looking punk is not the same as being punk.

They were a punk band though, along with Offspring.

No. What Mino said is correct. Bands like The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Misfits (albeit horror punk), are all just 'punk'.

Green Day, blink-182, Sum 41, are all 'pop-punk'. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just the way it is.
