favorite meaning behind villagers?

I love Lucky’s story. However I still do not know the story behind Hopkins and I am honestly not sure I want to.

like, is Hopkins just a balloon? Or is he some other kind of animal in a suit? An animal who doesn’t identify as the species they were born with and so they present another way? I’m so confused by him.
I always got the impression that he was just a living balloon animal, like Stitches being a living plushie except imo Hopkins is cuter. All I can say for sure is that this is his Pocket Camp bio: "Just a heads-up: Hopkins is not to be trusted. He's always full of hot air. If he wasn't properly moored to the ground, I bet even a light breeze could blow him away."

yeah, only Stitches isn’t actually a stuffed animal according to his pocket camp bio! He jut strongly resembles one, I guess.

“Due to his relaxed personality and slow-moving nature, Stitches is often confused with plush look-alike. Just so we're clear, he is NOT a toy.”

and while a living plushie is adorable, whatever Hopkins is (an animate pool toy!?) is kind of disturbing lol.

Woah, I actually didn't know about that! That's strange to me then, because it makes me question his X-shaped eyes even more... and makes me more confused about Hopkins than I was. Maybe sometimes toys just get magically brought to life and become like real animals? After all, look at Coco--she's even the only rabbit to have her ears stay totally stiff in NH while all the others have their ears bounce and sway now.

right, because Coco is made of wood that’s been animated by the spirit of a deceased...person? Rabbit? Unclear on that last part. Makes sense her ears don’t bob and her face doesn’t change.

but yes, that is the big question about Stitches. Ever since I read his PC bio it’s bothered me, but not enough to stop me from keeping him on my island and repeatedly yelling “I WANT TO SQUISH HIM” at my TV.

Always liked how Ruby is based on the moon rabbit folktale. I never loved her but it’s cool.
Came here to say this, except I do love her lol. I like how she really doesn't look like a peppy, she's softer than most, she could be a normal <3

Another one I like as an ancient history nerd is that Julian seems to be partially based on Julius Caesar! His astrology theme seems to reflect the fact that Caesar claimed he was related to Venus (the goddess), and his birthday is March 15th, the day Julius was assassinated. Additionally Julian is wearing a purple toga in his poster, which is what royalty wore during the Roman Empire times.

And continuing on this same line, Diana seems to be inspired by Greek and Roman Mythology, where Artemis (or Diana for the Romans) was the goddess of the hunt and the moon, and one of her symbols was the deer. Diana lives in a bathhouse that seems Roman-inspired too!

The ones I can think of off the top of my head are Mira for the Sailor V vibes/possible reference, Ruby for the reference to the moon rabbit legend, Zucker for looking like takoyaki, and both Chevre and Nan for being based on just about the cutest thing ever that also has a bit of depth to it, and is gonna take some explaining lol.

As you can see, these two adorable little goats have houses that completely mirror each other while also having each other's photos above their beds. Now, there's a Japanese children's song called Goat Mail about a black goat and a white goal who are pen pals. The black goat gets a letter from the white goat but because she's a goat, she eats it without reading it. Then she sends a letter to the black goat saying "sorry, what was it your letter said?", but the black coat is prone to the same habit so she also eats the letter and sends one to the white goat asking what her letter said. So they literally just get stuck in this endless loop and I'm almost completely certain Chevre and Nan are inspired by that. It makes them by far my favorite of all the goats except for Sherb and I think having them both on my island would be so cute.
They are such precious girls, Chevre was my starter and as soon as I read the story I had to get her real house and find Nan 🥺💓 Nan also reminds me of black Phillip from the VVitch, which makes her even better lmao

I don't know if I'm correct or not, but I think Pietro was named like that because of the Pierrots. Pietro and Pierrot sound similar (especially if you listen to a French or a person who has a French accent speaking), and that would make a lot more sense when you look at his face.

Cesar, the gorilla, was named after Cesar, the Roman emperor. That's why his catchphrase is "highness".
