Fanfiction is a work of literature based on media the author is a fan of!

What do you think of fanfiction? Do you read it? Do you...write it?? What fandoms do you enjoy reading/writing about? Share your thoughts!

Reading fanfiction is one of my guilty pleasures. (And don't worry, I haven't gotten to the more gross ones. Bleh!) Right now I'm reading fanfics with Kieran (from Pokémon) as one of the main characters because he's my fave and my #1 fictional crush. <3 I've also written a few of them before, but I refuse to read them because they aren't my best works. (//w//)

I used to have a tumblr blog specifically for MCU fanfictions/blurbs. 😭 I have a lot of notes on some of them, but will not link anything here related to said blog; as there are mature themes on some of my works. >_>

I also have a Genshin / Honkai: Star Rail blog too! But I haven't written anything for that blog yet. When I was in high-school, I used to love writing during classes, instead of doing my work or paying attention to the lessons T^T Writing used to be something I was very passionate about. I don't do it much anymore though, which makes me sad. I've definitely lost my spark.

I do enjoy some fanfiction. I don't read it often unless it's for a fandom that I'm really into.

I used to read some Dragon Age fan fiction; I tried my hand at it too but after I got some aggressive reply to my sequel, I stopped. I’m fine with constructive criticism but that did not sound like it was. Still silly to get discouraged, but even now, I’m kinda embarrassed about it. From time to time I think about trying it again. Not Dragon Age since I’ve moved on but maybe something else.

I’d like to read some more fan fiction eventually maybe 🙂.

Fanfiction is great! I’ve been reading and writing it for almost 15 years now, with fandoms changing over time as they do. I don’t consider it a guilty pleasure at all, there’s nothing guilty about it. I am of course embarrassed by some things I read or wrote early on, but that has more to do with me being young and into kids’ fandoms and my skills weren’t great yet. Overall there’s nothing shameful about fanfics.

I see them as a love letter to whatever piece of media they’re about. You care about something so much that you dedicate tons of time to analyzing the characters, really understanding them, thinking about how they talk and think and act. And you put so much love into a story surrounding them. And then you share that with the world, and others who love these characters too come and read it, because they also care so deeply much about the characters and the universe and the story. And I think it’s just a sort of beautiful piece of human interaction and an integral part of fandom.

Fanfiction rules!

I don't ever read fanfiction, but I have written quite a bit of Super Mario fanfiction in my day haha. dunno if I'll ever publish what I've written though, maybe!

I used to write fanfiction for the following series:

--Ranma 1/2
--InuYasha
--Castlevania
--Liberty's Kids
--House of the Dead
--Harry Potter
--A Series of Unfortunate Events

This was mostly when I was a teenager and in my early twenties, but it was still fun.

i don't read fanfiction, i'm just not much of a reader in general. do i write it?

perhaps.
i dread to think how much i've written privately

Fanfics are my guilty pleasure 😭 My main vibe is angst/comfort kind of romance, and once I start a fic I genuinely cannot stop until I finish it. Doesn't help that I like slow burn, so I almost always choose fics that are 30k+ words or more. Right now I'm avoiding reading fanfics because god knows once I get sucked into a long fic, it'll be hard for me to put it down ; ;

This is the longest fic i've ever read I think. and it's just for one pairing. and it's so good.

i spend... so much time reading fanfics akjwenkejrbg
the writing can honestly be soooo well written, and other times i'm just reading because i really like the fandom it's from heh

there's honestly too many fandoms that i read soooo i shan't post them but just know.... that it's a lot

i've written some back on tumblr but haven't done so in years!!! it was fun while it lasted and thank god no one will ever find them smiles

I think fanfiction is great! I used to be really into it a few years back, and I'd spend most of my days just writing. It was pretty fun, especially when you got to share your works with friends. Looking back at it, those works were really cringey, and I don't even wanna go back to delete them. 😭 It doesn't reflect my writing style nowadays, so I might have to eventually.

I currently prefer reading fanfiction, but I don't do it nearly as much these days. I can never find anything good on Wattpad (I'll check it occasionally if I'm really bored), and there's only one fic on AO3 that I've been following that gets updated monthly. I haven't published anything for a few years now, but I'm thinking of getting back into fanfic writing. :>

I've read so much PJO fanfiction that I forgot certain pairings are canon and that my OC doesn't actually exist...

I don't write as much but many ideas are floating around in my brain.

i used to read them in high school and early college!! i looooved the angsty stuff i remember losing sleep just to read them and try to finish them overnight

i wrote a few too but those... will stay in the past orz. i actually don't think they were that bad (i had a decent number of subs/readers) but life-wise i was still very very naive. i do want to get back into fic writing at some point but it probably won't be fanfics

Have wrote some in the past and they still might be up. Read a lot until post college. I still read them when I get really into a series but not as much. Super grateful to AO3 tagging system to filter out the stuff I don't want to read

Fanfiction is what got me into writing. I started writing Spyro the Dragon fanfic when I was 9, then branched into other media. At 14 I decided to switch to only writing original content.

I read fanfic until my late teens I think. Then I just lost interest.

When I was younger, I used to read soooooo much, but that's kinda a rareity now. I do have two fanfics I am trying to read, one about Hilda, about David mostly since he is my favourite character and one via RWBY focused more on Jaune for the same reasons. I find it hard to find any good stories on Jaune, everyone just writes sexual stuff between him and literally EVERY character.

I used to read more Ouran High School Club, Pokemon, Maximum Ride and Vanguard fanfiction, but really wanted to write my own.

My older works consist of Pokemon stories, Dinosaur King, Maximum Ride Horrid Henry(I wanna update this one), Vanguard. I also had one for this virutal families mobile app, and I vaguely remember someone in the comments saying I copied this from someone else?? Yet, I wrote it in my college class once so, dunno where they saw it but it was an annoymous person.

There are a lot of vanguard story ideas that I am still planning to write about my fav character, it's just a really hard block that's stressing me out. I also have one story for Maximum Ride, and Ouran High School Club too. I also had one kept in the lockers of my doc manager on fanfiction which was a story of Charlie and Lola but older. No idea if A03 has a thread for charlie and lola so had no idea where to put it XD

I read fanfiction all the time!! I only read ones that I am part of the fandom in. I love seeing everyone creative ideas :)

I have never read fanfiction really, but I think the stigma around it from mid-to-late 2010s cringe culture is really dumb and annoying. Not saying there isn't any straight up vile or problematic fanfiction, but most people who write or read fanfiction are just normal people who are passionate about their interests, and I think trying to say the nasty stuff represents all of the people who read or write fanfiction is very unfair and is just straight up wrong.
