Ever since finding this forum I’ve been very hesitant to share my island with users on other sites.
Tonight, For the first time I used turnip.exchange to share my dodo in order to reach a broader amount of people to let them come get a Celeste recipe and wish on stars.
I entirely fenced off the front of my island with Celeste trapped there because I just didn’t trust people from turnip.exchange like I trust the people on Bell Tree.
Most people were polite. At one point I had put out a lot of wrapped gifts and said they could take one or two. And one girl took almost all of them. It’s little things like that that make me not want to ever open my island to people not from Bell Tree.
Like if I were to have high turnip prices, I wouldn’t be able to section off my island as my store is in an odd location. And I just don’t trust other Users to respect my island.
I’ve never had any issues with anyone from Bell Tree. Only ever people not from here.
Anyone else have good or bad experiences from using other platforms?

I've used reddit and only had good experiences, but then I'm not too fussed about letting visitors go haywire because I don't have a problem with flowers being trampled or items being stolen because I don't leave anything valuable out. However none of that has ever happened :)

The horror stories I hear of people from other sites has made me use The Bell Tree exclusively. I think Bell Tree has a great safety blanket in the form of user feedback and the community in general is very respectful of each other.

edit- of course I am not saying other sites are not safe to use (as generally it's just a few bad apples in the bunch), it's just preference.

Yeah I would prefer them not to trample flowers or shake my trees and take fruit. But it’s not the end of the world if they do.
But one part of my island has star fragments lying around as decoration so I’m afraid of people stealing those as they’re the zodiac fragments.

I totally agree with this! The user feedback really puts me at ease. I honestly think I’ll just stick to using Bell Tree exclusively to ease my mind and I don’t have to be anxious about people messing with my island

The zodiac fragments look so beautiful as decoration (I wish there was the option place them instead of drop them)
Absolutely, I get anxiety about people visiting my island in the first place so knowing that I trust the community puts me more at ease.

On this website I have had lovely experiences sharing my dodo code with others. Before discovering this website I was using another and I would always visit others islands to trade. And the one time I open my island for someone to come to mine to trade I had set up for only 1 person to see the code then the code would stop working. As soon as that person leaves 5 random players come to my island using voice chat swearing at me telling me to un fence my island and to give them my stuff. And calling me a pathetic person who should K**L themselves and that they are gonna report my account for not giving them all I had and so on :(

The only other place I've posted my dodo code is a small discord group I'm in and some of the people don't follow similar protocol on this website. Sometimes I feel like people are too polite on these forums, like someone asked if they could take my seashells and I thought that was silly to ask (though I understand they are just being careful and respectful). So it's something I expect now.

But, this girl on the discord group went ahead into Redd's ship and bought a painting without me knowing. I wasn't upset, I just was expecting her to ask before she did it, lol.

Oh my gosh that’s insane! I definitely never experienced anything that bad. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. Some people are absolutely unbelievable. Like who thinks it’s okay to treat other people that way??

Totally agree! People on here are so overly polite that now I expect that over politeness from everyone and exhibit it myself. Like people ask before just buying something from the nook store... also ask if they’re even allowed to go in the stores! Honestly I think it’s the best way to approach being on someone else’s island. It’s like going into someone’s home irl. You’d never just wander around without consent.

I know and what made it worse by the K**L yourself comment was that I had lost a very close friend a week before this and didn't play the game for a bit cause of the comment.

I also emailed the website they did nothing about it :(

See you never know what people are going through! I always try to spread kindness.
Don’t know what site you used but clearly they’re not a good site to use if they don’t even care when their users are making comments like that 😔 I am so thankful for the mods on this site. They really make me feel safe and secure using this site.

You can use voice chat through the Nintendo switch app. It’s also really helpful for typing!

The only other site I have used is Nookazon, and thats last resort when I can't find a seller on the forums. I've had good and bad experiences, a few pretty bad ones including being lied to about products or villagers, having visitors come over and explore my entire island instead of just sticking to the trade, rude attitudes to me denying them permission to do certain things etc. I have also had some good ones but generally speaking I also try to keep trading and sharing dodo codes confined to the bell tree forums, this site community has never let me down (and hopefully never will)!

I have loved being on this website everyone has helped me so much with trades and with information on here and I agree the mods are all lovely and work hard to make this a safe environment :)

I was using the Nintendo app so I was typing back to them saying I'm sorry but I don't know how you could come to this island I had it blocked for only one user to visit. They were from discord apparently and said they would report my discord and tell the websites discord that I am (very unpleasant words that I will not type out but you get the point). But I don't understand cause I don't have a discord and I had posted the dodo code on the website.

Voice chat is an option on the Nintendo app and yes I switched it off and just sat there in silence confused on what happened

Yo, that's really messed up. Sorry you had a really bad experience. I wish those people were punished for it :/
My best friend had a somewhat similar situation (minus the death wishes). She was hosting for Celeste with an orderly queue on turnip exchange, right up until someone leaked her dodo code and random people started flooding her gates.

It's because of this, asides from internet connection problems at times, that I don't like hosting more than one person at a time. But I do love the people here on Bell Tree, and I trust people here enough for me to say "Hey I'll be afk you can go visit whichever NPC I have today!" When I trade on other sites like Nookazon, I always have to remind people to follow me and I have to be glued to my screen because I don't trust them as much as I trust the people here. It's not that they're bad people or bad sites to trade on, it's just me being wary outside my comfort zone haha.

I've had mixed experience on other sites, including the turnip exchange. I usually fence off my island so they can't go anywhere but through the path I've made for them. Recently since diving I've been scared to offer this. I had someone once try to break through the barriers, looking for a way to access the rest of my island. I don't think I opened up with a public Dodo code since and I would only do it here if I chose to do it again. It's not worth the risk!

I saw in another thread a few days ago that people are being able to hack and just walk threw fences now too :(
I've been on islands with other players and I'm hanging out with the host and someone comes in a wetsuit and just jumps off the boardwalk/Airport and goes around grabbing things :/

Thank you :)

I don't like it when I'm in a queue to sell my turnips then the host is like I'm deleting my dodo code cause players keep making more than 1 trip and you have been in line for over 2 hours :( why can't people respect the rules there is nothing wrong lining up again to go sell again.

not sure what could be done with that hack, but diving really changed things. For me my policy is if I don't trust the person to let them know that as soon as I see a diving suit I will turn off my switch, so they better keep it off

Yeah I’ve seen other people too say no wet suits allowed - which is good to have in their rules before visiting as I sometimes forget to take mine off and it’s a good reminder.
Sad though that people can’t just respect rules and respect other’s islands. Obviously if it’s fenced off, the host doesn’t want you roaming around by yourself. So respect that!!
