Today I decided to open my gates so I could hang out with someone in my town. This girl came, ran around for a bit and I followed her. I lost her from my view for a second but found her again, and she was taking a gold rose I had near my train station (probably a bad idea on my part but I like the design lol). I knew she stole two. I told her to give back the one I saw her steal and she did saying she picked it up by accident. What a liar. And I told her that I know she stole another one, she lied and said she didn't. I refused to believe her and she eventually gave it back and replied "jk." WTF! D: I kicked her out and removed my from my friend list.

I was lucky enough to get back what was stolen. .____. And I guess this was more of an attempt to steal. xp

Do you guys have any horror stories?

That's mean of her...but I'm glad you got the rose back and removed the girl from your list. c:
I don't have any horror stories, but I'm sure some people have had at least one!

my friend came to my town and he took all my fruit and probably ran through some flowers. and he attempted to cut down trees. that and he took some stuff i had lying on the ground. (i run out of room a lot)

i dont mind too much though, but if this was a stranger i would've killed him.

I've had a gold rose and a jacob's ladder stolen from me.
I also had one guy who wanted some fruit, so I took fruit to his town, he then wanted to visit my town, but when he visited me he started taking all of my fruit (-___-;) and ran over a bunch of flowers, so I d/ced.

I've let a bunch of random people in my town, but luckily nothing has been stolen/trampled.
Im going to be more careful about who I let in now that I have hybrids and carnations growing =x

When I didn't have many hybrids and flowers in my town, the random people I would always let in never caused a problem. I guess when you start getting hybrid flowers, people would be more inclined to steal when you're not looking. -sigh-

I have been lucky so far but I have only had two people in.
Once I get the gold watering can I won't be as paranoid.
I don't leave things lying around or have tons of hybrids or anything so it really isn't a big deal but I hear horror stories of people having trees chopped down and all their flowers ruined etc.
It is easy enough to replant etc just time consuming...but until I get that watering can I will do one at a time so I will know if anything turns up missing or ruined exactly WHO did it and remove them from my list.

I've had my share of bad stories in Wild World. In CF I didn't because I only would use store services and stuff and wouldn't play with anyone online.

In New Leaf, not exactly, but some idiot from a fb group I'm in came to my town to make a trade, and instead of leaving after we were done, just started running around (on paths, thankfully). I followed him very closely, and said I had to leave.
It was rude, still, but I don't think he knew that, so I don't really count as a bad story, as he didn't had the intention to steal anything (I think)
But then again, I rarely play with anyone, in any game lol *single player complex*

I've got a bunch of black roses and tulips, and I am TERRIFIED of having people over now. How messed up is it that what was once a happy, close-knit community has turned into a mishmash of paranoia and rude jackasses who are ruining the game for everyone else?

@Amykins
Omg at first I didn't understand the paranoia of letting people into your town. This is my first AC game and I thought it was ridiculous, but now I understand where people are coming from since I feel the exact same way! XD

And alot of the people who play AC are under 13 who, I'm betting, would be more likely to run around, steal, destroy flowers since they're just kids. I don't ask people their age when I decide to add someone's FC. p:

I'm about to start asking, to be truthful! IT's pretty easy to spot a liar, if they hesitate and say "21" and then I'll ask their birthday and they won't be able to do the math. XD But then again if I was a stranger and a town host gave me the 9th degree grilling me about my birth year I'd probably puff off back to my town...it's a lose-lose situation, isn't it?

Aw man, I would like to make friends on New Leaf (Just got it yesterday) and it would be awful to make a friend and have them do that to me.
If you want add my friendcode and i'll hang out with you, and you can do the same ^^

Yay! I'd like that. ^^ I've added you! I've never had a AC friend across the pond before!

I'm not sure if I would call stealing flowers a 'Horror Story', maybe someone one who comes in and chops down all your trees and destroys flowers by the stretch of the imagination be slightly considered a horror story, but simply stealing flowers? sure its mean and obviously wrong, but they can be regrown or bought from another player.

I still don't and will never understand why those of you who are so paranoid and strict with your towns even bother adding and inviting people you don't know to your towns? Seems to me that you should be a lot more selective with who you go through the process of allowing into your town.

I know I am part of the old mindset from the AC:WW days where I don't mind people running around and having fun in my town, without me stalking them the whole time like a warden in a prison. but I do understand the concept of not wanting your things being touched or bothered. I just don't understand Inviting people in where they can bother you in the first place. Animal Crossing started out as a "Social" game, and with this latest game it seems many are trying to get away from that aspect, but still participate at the same time, and obviously its not working for them.

I don't have any 'horror' stories, because even when I can have visitors I really don't worry about what they are doing. I know its just a game and they cant destroy anything in my town beyond what I can eventually fix or replace. Trees and Flowers can all be regrown, designs can all be replaced, and I could careless if visitors talk to my neighbors or shop in my stores. I've already bought everything in them I'm interested in by the time I open my gates. and I would NEVER leave anything laying on the ground that I want to keep. (that should just be common sense.)

So I guess if these encounters are so horrible, my thought is why set yourself up by going through the whole process to allow them in your town in the first place?

But I will never understand the reasoning so I'm not going to bother actually asking a rhetorical question.

Remember that if anything goes bad during a visit, just hit your wifi switch. everyone will be disconnected and sent home BUT the game will not save like it will if you kick them out. This way nothing they did is saved in your town (or for them -- anything they stole vanishes from their pockets) but you don't lose progress or get Resetti'd like you would if you hit the power.

I think I'll be very paranoid when I start growing hybrids and such about having people over. Nothing has happened to me because in WW and CF I never connected with anyone. I was young and never really bothered. Now in NL, I love meeting up with people. I love going to people's towns and exploring and looking at their houses but when I do that it looks kinda suspicious just wandering around for no reason...

Anyway I visited a lovely town today with people coming and going and it was fine. I admit it was hard to stop myself grabbing a hybrid because they were oh-so-beautiful but all I think is what I would think if it happened to me. I would be furious, so I restrained myself. They worked hard for it, so should I. That's all.

Aw, these are horrible stories!! I've been lucky so far, had lots of lovely people come round and visited just as many too. I'm just starting to get my hybrids and plan eventually to have a sort of hybrid nursery bordered by bushes. Knowing my luck, some villager that I hate will move right on top of it though, sigh...

I've had a fair share of WW horror stories, but I'm not really bothered to tell about it since this is a NL horror story discussion... lol. But, luckily, I haven't met anybody or experienced something in this game yet to be considered a horror story. (But at least your flowers are okay!)

And I wholeheartedly agree with Meltd0wn.
