Ever given blood?

Yeah but now I can't anymore because I'm gay and they probably put that on file.

Because being gay apparently means you have tainted blood

It's very strange, actually.
The gave me a list of things I could not ever do beforehand. It said if I visited Africa before, that I could give blood but only if it was a recent trip. (I believe three years after the trip). However, it's really surprising to see places like "Norway", "Ireland" and "Canada" on the list of places I shouldn't visit. It also said you cannot take asprin the weeks prior to the donation. Very strange.

What? You didn't know that if you have had sex with the same gender, you cannot donate blood? (at least that's what American Red Cross rules state)

screeches

It's an outdated rule, to be honest, and I do think they know it. They are currently trying to fix it but it isn't their first priority.

In the United States, deferral is based on FDA-defined high risk activity (they don't want blood tainted with diseases like HIV/AIDS), not sexual orientation (they don't do this because they don't like gay people, in the 1980's it was shown HIV was seen as a "gay" disease and they barred gay people because they thought it was spread only by gay men). Homosexual males who have not engaged in activity since 1977 are not deferred from volunteer blood donation in some clinics.

I donated plasma for a few months, but then they turned me down because of protein levels. I recently sent in a new sample to see if I can go back. Gonna call in and check tomorrow! Anyway, the one time I got a nasty bruise was literally a few days before graduation. We weren't allowed to wear our gowns for the first half, so I was folding my arm and hiding pffffffff;;; It looked sooo bad. And of my peers who caught it, they prolly got the wrong idea. :c

No, and it's not even I'm scared of blood to needles. One time watching a show they were all secretly vampires taking free blood and I find it hard to trust those people now. I mean I just can't. ;-;
Stupid Disney show. -_-

what does blood type have to do with anything
also i don't know
this question was asked in ACWW... which confused me

Well it kind of has to do what blood/bone marrow suits you. Certain types can't give to each other.

I have wanted to donate blood for a few years now, but I'm not allowed to. I'm restricted because of an autoimmune disease unfortunately. If they ever change that rule I would definitely donate - I am so used to needles by now and have given a lot of blood for testing in the past.

I get dizzy even thinking of needles
(a 21 year old girl in near tears every time she needs blood work...).

Every time I see a RED truck (where you'd give blood and all),
I feel like throwing up ;-; So yeah, I'm just too afraid to...

I'm terrified of needles, so I did it to 'face my fears,' worst decision ever. I will never do it again. I ended up crying and scaring the nurse and since it was at school all my friends were there. It was just bad.

I think it's a great thing to donate blood but I'm a little squeamish myself so I've never done it. :( My mother had some bad experiences with people not sticking the needle the right way so that also scares me a little.

I'm going to give blood on the 7th january (i think its then) I'm scared & excited c:
