If I saw my mother laying in the hospital a vegetable, hurting and in pain and she said she wouldn't mind, I don't know if I could personally do it but I would allow someone else to do it.
reminds me of shaun of the dead.

understandable.

What if you were a vegetable and you honestly felt like you could get out of this.
i don't think i'd be feeling anything about anything if i were a vegetable

considering the whole "brain not functioning" thing

LOLWUT

If they wanted to die, then it seems fine with me. Assuming the person just wants to end their pain and die peacefully and painlessly.

My good old friend..went brain dead his parents wanted for him to die peacefully. All that kept him alive were the machine his parents were the ones who pull the plug. Being in a school band you can imagine how things were.. :/

But back to the topic. I agree, its best for the person to die peacefully then having a machine keeping him alive..

Honestly, it's their life, I don't see why people should be against it. It's their decision to do what they think is best for them and I don't see why people can't respect that.
EDIT: ^ Only applies for people.

Not really sure about animals, but if they were in alot of pain, then I think it'd be the best.

However, the more debatable circumstance is when the person is not in a state of mind to make this decision. Like my granddad, Dementia is a progressive condition and will not/can't get better. Some people are at a stage where they are not in a fit state of mind to hold a fork properly, let alone decide on life or death. In these circumstances, should others, ie family, have the choice, or must they endure their pain/distress, simply because they are not in a fit state of mind to choose it themselves?

What would you do in this circumstance then, -mez?

I think everyone more or less agrees on the obvious, but I'm sure the more controversial question is that should others have the right to choose this person's fate if they are not in a fit state of mind to make the decision themselves?
