Error Code 86420

So, whenever I try to visit other towns I am able to select them, but when it's connecting I get Connection Failed with the code 86420 for firewall/router issues. In reading the support stuff on Nintendo's site, I'm hesitant to mess around with my router settings.

I've tried leaving it alone and trying again later with no success. Anyone know anything simple to try that will help me figure out what the problem is before I have to play with the router?
