How do you know when its right to erase your town and start over? My town of Riften is super settled, almost completely done aside from a few finishing touches for my house... but idk, I just don't know what to do from here? I love creating towns... but I don't want more than 3 towns as it seems excessive to me!

The thought of starting over has come to mind, but the thought of erasing Riften just seems too much as it is my longest running town ever, since December 31st 2014. the villagers are all meh, because I wanted them to fit the theme.

I have been seeing so many new villagers that seem so cool, I want to start a new epic town filled with all the villagers who seem like superstars, but I'm so torn its crazy....

I felt the same way today when I was thinking about restarting Dewdrop.
But it just started to feel right to me as the day went on and I thought about it more. I was unhappy with the design I chose for my character and I was unhappy with where I put my house, the map started getting to me.
And I am not as settled as you, I mean I have all the shop upgrades besides the last T&T but..
If you feel it's time to restart then I say just go for it. That's how I decided to restart.

Oh, I wouldn't restart Riften...keep in mind that dream addresses eventually get erased from Nintendo's servers/database or whatnot. I'm not sure if they go by number of visitors, or the date last updated, but dreams do disappear. Would you be ok with never seeing Riften again? If so--and you're absolutely sure--then that's fine, but I would think really hard about it before doing anything drastic. (And I personally loved your villagers and the way you thought them out to match the theme!)

I know you said you don't want to manage more than 3 towns, which is completely understandable, so maybe just put Riften on hiatus--write down the day you stop playing, and before you start the game up again (if/when you choose to), set the DS clock to that date...at least, that's the way I understand it to work. You might know more about it than I do, haha. Doing that would free you from the responsibility of maintenance. You may be bored or finished with Riften for now, but just imagine being able to go back to it later, like a time capsule.

I purchased my 4th ACNL cartridge the day after Black Friday, when it was on sale for $15. I wouldn't expect you to wait until Nov. for a sale like that, but maybe you could score a deal somewhere to soften the blow of buying another copy? Then you could work on your new, epic town that you envision without having to still actually manage Riften.

Just some ideas to take with a grain of salt. :)

I would suggest buying another game cartridge.

That would be a way to keep the town.

You can keep the town to just occasionally explore. (Make a given last game date one in which a villager has pinged for a move. That way, even if you don't play it again for several months, you won't lose any villagers.)

Oh I wouldn't delete that town :( it's amazing and you've done so much work on it to get it like that. Plus you may regret it, even if you've seen villagers you like they might not be a good as you thought they'd be. I've had that with a couple of mine and had to replace them and accept I will probably never get the previous villagers back :(

I've bought a second cartridge to mess around on and I'll probably be keeping Hyrule as my main town seeing as I've done so much on it. What about your other town? Or are you definitely keeping that one?

The "right time" is when you want to. There's nothing wrong with erasing a town just because it's old. It's your game and you should enjoy playing it...even if it means restarting it sometimes.

You guys are right... Riften might be too nice to erase.... I don't want to lose all the work and memories, I like almost tear up just normally watching the town stats under the tree

Yeah, it would be a bit of a silly idea to get rid of it. :P

I sort of wish the game data wasn't saved on the cartridges itself but rather separate cards (like the PS1/PS2/360 but smaller) so people wouldn't have to keep on buying new copies of the game.
