Ed is a villager in my sisters town, and every time I head up to Main Street for the past 3-ish weeks he's been wandering around between Tom Nook's and the Post Office, apparently doing some shopping in my town
. I built a campsite to try and get him to camp and leave, but he's just there... Forever. Anything I can do about it?

If you're encountering Ed then he was probably a previous villager in your town. Unfortunately, there's no point in trying to remove villagers like that. There is a set number of villagers previously in your town that moved out that you will find on Main Street permanently....

The campsite wouldn't work either because I'm sure the game won't load an existing villager in Main Street or your town. It doesn't work like that; a random villager from the game's data is what is encountered in a villager tent rather than a villager in another's town.

Except there's one factor that changes the characters on Main Street. When villagers move out, there's the existing 16 villager cycle. What does this mean? This means in your question that if villagers from your town move out if enough move out, Ed will definitely disappear from your town. Hopefully this answers you question; you just have to move out villagers.

To be honest, having villagers on Main Street shouldn't be too much of a hassle. They're just there.

I know, but apparently he's missing in my sisters town and he was one of her favorites. I'm just a casual player, and a lot of that stuff you've said means little to nothing.

And how do you move out villagers? Is there a surefire way? Bullying doesnt work, I dont think.

Also, I don't think Ed was ever in my town, unless he was an original resident. There was a year-long gap when I lost my 3DS and a few people changed.

No matter how Ed got to your Main Street if he doesn't have a house in your village then you're stuck with him until you move out a few more villagers.I think you need to move out another four to get a villager to leave Main Street...or is it the full cycle of 16?Somebody here probably knows for sure.

Moving out villagers? There's no trick to it, you just play every day and if there's a lot they'll just randomly ask to move out.
I honestly don't really know, if Ed has legitimately disappeared off the face of the earth off your sister's town or if you just don't see him anymore. Plus, he was definitely an original resident of some sorts if you're seeing him in Main Street for that long. Too much things can change in a year in ACNL.

Of course it'd be long and convoluted to get out villagers and stuff like that; ACNL isn't really a game you should change much without time travelling, and that's why most of what I say seems like technical mishmash to you.

I suggest once your sister finds her Ed, you go talk to him. Chances are if he is from your town or in your cycle still, he'll remember you. If he isn't your Ed at all, he'll reintroduce himself. Then if Ed remembers you, you'll know for sure whether he has lived in your town or not. Although, villagers will only appear on mainstreet if they have or are currently living in town. It's not a random villager, so chances are while you left for a year you probably weren't very good friends with Ed or had introduced yourself, so when he left he didn't send you a goodbye letter. That or while you were gone he moved into your town, and then moved out shortly afterwards. Or he's just an original villager that you don't remember.

You can do mini cycling in your town to get villagers out....go a few days forward and back to get villagers to ping to move but you can't guarenteed who it is who will ask to leave. It's all random
Bullying them does nothing, that was a myth when the game first came out and people used to whack their villagers with nets and things. If anything it makes it worse not better. I've found whether I ignore a villager or have high friendship it makes no difference to when they leave. Providing it is not the 10th move in (as they won't leave until somebody else moves out and in again) they will all go eventually

Moving out villager is random the game picks what villagers move out on what day. For ed you need to get rid of afew villagers before he leaves Main street.

Yes, once more villagers have moved out of your town, he will disappear from your main street. That's interesting, though, have your sister's character go talk to him. It would be interesting to know if that's her villager!
