Hello everyone!

I have a bit of a conundrum.

One of my dream villagers, Whitney, camped at my village and I had that extra 10th slot and convinced her to move in.

When I woke up the next day, I loaded up my mayor (all four of my character slots are used because the home designing aspect is my favourite bit of the game) and went to see where Whitney had set herself up and was confused because she wasn't in any of the spaces I'd allotted for new villagers to move in.

I went around town, just doing my normal rounds, and realized that she'd set up her home right on top of the area of rare flowers I'd been rearranging the night before when she was camping. I'd forgotten to put my path designs back before I'd gone to sleep.

More than the loss of rare flowers (which is upsetting, but those can eventually be regrown) is the fact that that bed of rare flowers was directly in front of one of my other character's homes, so now she's blocked most of the home from view and pretty much ruined specific plans for the area, as well as the general aesthetics of the area because now the path designs are messed up.

I was thinking of just ignoring her so that she'd move (haven't spoken to her past the greeting when her house was still full of boxes), but are there ways to up the chances that she'll come back? Does a villager never return if they move away due to being unhappy?

I know that she also has an amiibo card, but I don't know if summoning (is that the right word? Lol) her via the card is a feasible option since she seems to be quite popular, so her card is probably a bit expensive.

If anyone could offer some advice on what I should/can do I'd very much appreciate it!

After you get to 3 stars, can’t you move around there homes and stuff?

Hi!
You can talk to Tom Nook and pay 50K to move her home if you don’t like the location of where it’s at
I moved all then of my villagers homes once I found an area I liked for each of them
Cost me half a million bells though 😭

I'm not sure what you mean by stars? Do I have to speak to Isabelle about that? She just gives me my town's rating iirc, but I'll check again when I get home!

Oh! I didn't know Tom could do that! Does it matter if my house isn't fully paid for yet?

No it doesn’t!
If she is still unpacking you won’t be able to do it until tomorrow when she is fully moved in
But it shouldn’t be a problem!

By "gotten K.K" do you mean made the nightclub? Because I do have it on my main street and K.K. has also stopped by my coffeeshop a few times.

Oh haha I’m stupid,, I thought this was NH sorry,, gl tho!!

Excellent! She's unpacked and roaming the town already so when I get home I'll speak to Tom Nook about moving her. Thank you for your help!

unfortunately, I don't recall any methods of moving villager houses in ACNL.

getting around town was some REAL FUN when Pietro decided to plop his house down right in front of one of my bridges. ugh.

Is this in New Leaf? If so the villager's houses cannot be moved. She will have to be moved out.

Oh no 😭

I'm really torn on what to do. I really wanted Whitney, but I'm also so sad about what happened to the area around my character's house. I'd finally grown perfect fruit that I needed for the area too. What horrid luck 😓
Post automatically merged:

That sounds horrible! I didn’t even know this can happen

She moved right onto my patch of blue violets 😭

Not a single one was spared, but (strangely?) a bunch of my purple and white ones survived.

I'm most upset about the proximity to my character's house though because I had such big plans for the surrounding landscape and everything was finally falling into place.

(Apologies for terrible picture quality)

I'm so sorry, but it's true that villager houses cannot be moved in New Leaf. Also, it is notoriously difficult to get the 10th villager to move out so it's very unlikely she will leave on her own anytime soon. If you want to move her out, you will be better off scanning in another villager via Amiibo card to kick her out. And if you want to get her back, you will have to go through the 16 villager cycle before she can move back in, meaning 16 more villagers will have to leave your town before Whitney can move back in. The only way to circumvent the 16 villager cycle is to scan Whitney back in with her Amiibo card.

Another option you may want to consider is deleting your player character and remaking them so you can rebuild their house elsewhere. You can only do this if the player is not the mayor because if you delete the mayor you will delete the entire town. But it may be better to alter your plans and place your player character somewhere else if you really want to keep Whitney. Just a thought.

As a side note, if you decide to do the 16 villager cycle then I can help you get Whitney back (or maybe another villager that you like)! :)

I'm really sorry this happened, it's happened too many times to me in NL and it makes me grateful that village houses can be moved in NH.

Is this for real? Could I see a picture of it if possible? I’m a bit in shock. I assumed they wouldn’t be able to do that and I just started a bridge project so that I could have a little secluded orchard accessible only via that bridge but now I’m worried a villager will just randomly move there.

Is it bad that this thread made me laugh? Sorry.

It's really unfortunate, but yeah, you can't move villagers in New Leaf. Otherwise, there's a few villagers whose houses I would have liked to swap around.

Do not worry about villager never returning if they move away unhappy. They will return with amnesia when you invite them back in your town either via trades or Amiibo card

Adding on to @LadyDestani excellent guidance. I developed a good way to place villagers where I want them to place their houses. It requires you to initially have one character spot vacant. The Welcome Amiibo update allows you to somewhat control the spot where your potential villagers can move into using patterns (villagers will not place plots on patterns).

First, I placed patterns around town and have 3x3 empty plots of land available around the town where I wouldn't mind a villager placing his/her plot on.
Second, I create a new save file during the new day (town day resets at 6AM) that a villager was going to place his/her plot and check out the feasibility of the 3x3 plots of land that I left available. After checking one plot, I quit and begin the process again until I checked the feasibility of all the available 3x3 plots of land. If a villager place his/her plot on the available plots of land then you know it is a potential spot for future move-ins. Record all the potential spots somewhere for future references.

Some additional should know is that villager plot placement require 3 extra spaces horizontally from another villager house or PWP, 3 extra spaces horizontally from cliffs (by the sea) or river, 2 extra spaces vertically from another villager house or PWP, 2 extra space vertically from cliff face (on the side of the town), 1 extra space vertically from the riverside, and 3 extra spaces vertically from the town square. Until today, I'm not sure how many empty spaces horizontally are needed from the town square and I have experiment with many failures so it's best to not plan for any placements above and below the town square!
