I know that much. But I meant in the original games.
The first version is always the canon one. So Red, Gold, Ruby, FireRed, Diamond, and HeartGold are the canon versions, as opposed to Green/Blue, Silver, Sapphire, LeafGreen, Pearl, and SoulSilver. The first choices for the main character and your rival in Red Version are Red and Blue, respectively, so those are their official names. Not to mention they're the names used by the developers.

Red/Gary/Annoying Rival is a realllll pain in the butt, lemme tell yeh. I think he just likes to be contrary. :|

I don't think it's confirmed but those people are their fathers
No because that would mean ALL the gym leaders Etc would be the mothers/fathers of the gym leaders.
its the same people but different tales.
No it bloody doesn't.

You're assuming that basically.

The Manga comics just have these similarities.
Ash never had a Nidorino yet Red did. in GSC, you'd face Red at the end. GSC is what, 3 years after Team Rocket's plans in RBY series. Ash couldn't be that old.

gfg
Um, there is no Ash and Gary in the games, hate to break it to you. Only the anime and anime-based games use those names. Their real names are Red and Blue, period. You can't argue otherwise, because it's confirmed. And the Red from GSC/HGSS is the same person from RGBY/FRLG, and the same is true for Blue. It's official, there's nothing to argue about.
for the record my speculation was based before such confirmation
