What do you hate about mainstream games?

They try to do too many things, copying elements from other successful titles (even other genres) to the point a number of initially distinct franchises now feel very same-y.
To use ACNH as example, a lot of simulation games now have island design concepts and museums. I'm so over islands and the sight of another museum makes me groan.

Just not my type and do alot I disagree with game design wise. I watch my Uncle play modern games and they just don't look fun. Tried RE4 (the original even) and TLOU, both were boring to me. I just prefer 2D stuff which AAA Devs don't see much worth in unless it's a metroidvania or something which I don't care for either. Only AAA titles that aren't Nintendo or 2D I care for ig are GTA. Even then not a big fan of V.
Maybe it was always a thing, but it feels like a lot of the games I've tried in the past few years haven't really tried to do things that are fun. It's just easier for them to make some game mechanic grindy or time consuming to pad the time out artificially. Kind of hard to explain without giving specifics.
Examples are like how they implemented the seasonal diy in ACNH. They could've made it so fun and engaging how they're given out. Instead it's easier to code them in balloons and 'just be done with it' instead of trying to brainstorm creative ways they could've been engaging. And I feel like so many modern games do this now because there's more pressure on them by stocks/shareholders to push a game out as fast as it can be instead of how there used to be some passion.

Probably DLCs and the outrageous pricing. It really prevents me from wanting to buy new games or preorder for that matter. High prices now make me buy less games. I now consider which games are worth getting and ones that I should wait on. Tbh I am still waiting on some and may never buy them.
