anyone understand this thing yet?

it’s a diy recipe you can buy from the nook stop then craft and place on your island. it lets you place bells inside it

does anyone know if villagers will donate? what happens to the bells donated?

You get to keep the bells donated. Villagers do not donate, mine is empty after 1 day.

My guess, it's a novelty item. You can only donate 1,000 bells at a time, so it's pretty useless.

It’s suppose to be easier for trading. Like for example, if someone comes over to drop of millions of bells, donating them there is easier for the transaction than dropping them one by one.

Nvm I tested it by visiting myself on the other island and I can confirm you can donate bells in the donation box but its only 1,000 bells. You can do one at a time. I mean its cool, but dropping a lot of bells on the ground is a lot more useful. I could maybe see this in trades you know how people are always like "Tips are appreciated" well I think this donation box could be useful.
