haha lol yeah not that extreme but when I started my town Pompom, Croque and Gigi were in a line and then when Flo moved in she moved in right beside Dora, like in a perfect spot if I would have liked them there. (I didn't since they are/were in the middle of my path but weLL YEA H h)

That's amazing! It happened with me, I had 3 villagers in a vertical line, and my brother had all his villagers in a horizontal line, similar to yours.

In my town,the villagers only plot in or around that line of houses below the river,up near the town hall or the small area across the river from the mayor's house...and that's it.When I started the town,four of the five original villagers were all in that same line of houses.
I wish I was that lucky!

Villagers have a preference for moving in near other homes so that they have neighbors (some personalities might differ, but i think they all pretty much function like this), so it's not uncommon to get villagers clustering together in one area of the map. For them to be in a line like that is probably because it's such a skinny area that they couldn't move in above or below the other homes, so the only other option was to the side.

Rng is random number generator. Basically where a villager goes is completely random by the game, you definitely did get lucky c:
I think they do tend to plot close to other villagers. This is my map:

I did villager reset for dreamies, but obviously you can't villager reset and plot reset at the same time. They just decided to form a little half circle thing. This happened in my last town too.
I must say though, the perfect line in your town is pretty enviable
