Does the old way of keeping villagers from moving still work?

Just wondering because I have all my dreamies.
So if I wanted to take a hiatus I could just stop someone from moving and quit playing that same day right? This method still works?

Probably. I didn't play my game for a few weeks, came back, spoke to everyone, stopped the pinger from leaving.

Wonderful thanks! I'm always taking like 4 month hiatuses and it's always great to know that because I stopped a villager from moving the day I started my hiatus nobody will have left when I return.
