Does anyone else's Island have a "story" to it?

What I mean is, do you treat your island almost like an RP and have a backstory for it? Does your island have a fictional government or mythos behind it? Are there any sort of cultural traditions you have invented specifically for your village? What about imagined dynamics between villagers that expound on their dislike for one another displayed in conversations? I'd love to hear about it from y'all!

My town is based around the "Tomunist Party of Rhodes" and I RP it as a dystopian society where Tom Nook is the figurehead but I'm the actual political power, despite being VP. 'Cuz ykno, the memes about Tom Nook and his sketchy corporation? LOL Makes the game more fun when I frame it around this context and do whack stuff like "deliver the secret documents to Pashmina" (but its actually I bought a "document stack" and gifted it to her.) I want to start making videos about this RP thing for lolz but I've been lazy about it oof.

Anyhow, would love to hear about your islands!

Dobie only moved in about 2 or so weeks ago and he’s started two fights. He has quite a sharp tongue and a house with a mysterious whiteboard that appears to be used for tracking people down and papers and books everywhere! His phonograph also plays Agent KK. From this, I have concluded that he is a retired spy and decided to live the island life to relax after all these years :’)

I don't have anything fancy, but I got a few subplots for my villagers that are going on
For example, it is officially my headcanon that Octavian is secretly an alien (I mean, the spaceship in his house is a dead giveaway) and Filbert is an alien-enthusiast trying to track down aliens, but he doesn't know yet that Octavian is in fact an alien.

it takes place in the future, a few years after the Resident Representative moved onto the island.
Chief is wanted for various crimes. Whoever catches him will get a lot of bells.
Maddie is a nurse, and works for Marina, who is a doctor.
Rasher is Chief’s partner in crime and best friend.
Rudy owns a business, and has been frequently stolen from by Chief.
thats all I really have right now lol

That is really such a cool idea that you have for your island & does sound fun. My island is far from being complete, but I am considering maybe eventually posting something in the island journals along with screenshots.

Something Rudy said awhile back when I was still new to the game actually gave me an idea, which I forgot all about. My town’s theme is based on the Dragon Age series and so, when Rudy asked me something along the lines that he was expecting to see a boss to show up and asked me if I was the end game boss, I was thinking that even though the Inquisitor/Grey Warden in Dragon Age was a hero of some sorts, maybe on my island, I could twist the story around (after all, some of my areas are just loose depictions of various locations in all of the games) and make my character an end boss that all of my villagers have to fight.

(And the community center is run by a character who never really existed.)

My island wasn't as deserted as everyone thought, there's an island god sleeping in the ruins of an ancient temple who, when he wakes up, will be terribly confused by all those weird people. I've yet to build the ruins and invite Avery though.

Ouuu that ancient temple sounds amazing And lol gotta love the surveillance centre aspect XD I want my island to have one too, but I've figured out that, in my case, to stage all the sketchy govt. buildings for gameplay videos, I'm probably better off using Harvey's weirdo island LOL

my island is based on japan and anime so I've done a WHOLE TON of headcanon especially in the romance department lol.

Spoiler: its kinda long so spoiler-ing it

Boris, Fuschia, and Judy live in the marketplace area, and they're all fighting to be the so-called "King of the Markets". Boris is in charge of carrying all things and rearranging stalls/items, Fuschia is in charge of tallying inventory and sales, and Judy is in charge of promotion and advertisement. Despite this competition, they're a trio of best friends.

In the neighborhood area you have: Nan and Stella, who are best friends that live beside each other (they visit each other constantly!), Ruby, the adopted niece of Boris, and Cherry, just uhh a chill girl who started a one-woman band.

The forest area has Sherb and Bea, two close friends. No story behind them in the forest area, i just like them having special places bc i love them the most LOL. Sherb is a chill guy too, and Bea is the prettiest girl on the island.

The romance thing is kinda complicated?? Boris and Fuschia have a sort of secret summer fling (that Judy has 0 idea about), but it's really not (supposed to be) anything serious. Boris has had a long-standing crush on Bea but he can barely get himself to talk to her, Fuschia pretty much knows this and she KNOWS they arent anything serious but she kind of has a serious crush on Boris and she just tries repressing her feelings.
Uhh Cherry has a crush on Judy, and Cherry was absolutely IN LOVE when Judy gave her a dreamy sweater even though it was way off her punk style (I see her walk around in it always oml).
Nan and Sherb have a thing maybe?? they go on dates?? I have pics for proof LOL but I feel like Sherb's just nice and friendly and Nan is an absolutely shy girl so she always cries to Stella about it.

Other random headcanons is that Judy is trying to win Ruby's love (in the "older sister" kind of way since Ruby's a kid in my HCs) to have something to brag about to Boris and Fuschia. She gave Ruby a red fairy tale dress and Ruby was so ecstatic about wearing it and how she looked like a popstar as it was her dream. Now Ruby and Judy have matchy dresses sometimes.
