Does anyone else hate that you can't choose your pronouns?

This might be a non issue for others but I hate being referred to as they by all the animals I think we should've been able to choose at the start if we are he/she/they, or maybe choose which pronoun we want when we change up our look with a mirror? Maybe it's just me that's so bothered by this though

I personally don't notice it. When do they refer to us as they/them even? Usually they're talking to us? Is it if they're having a conversation? Either way, I guess I don't really mind, since I didn't even notice to begin with hehe.

If I recall correctly the Japanese version of the game has you choose a gender at the start as opposed to a style, so they would have had to add a pronoun thing just for the English release.

I personally love the gender neutral direction the English release took, but I suppose if you're not used to being called "they" it might feel a bit weird.​

It’s a bit strange for me, but I don’t realize it most of the time. Should they have just added that option to begin with? Yes.

Was it like this in New Leaf?

There is no he/she pronoun in Japanese. It's I/You with some variations being gendered. Also most conversational Japanese would drop the noun in a sentence if it's obvious to the people in the conversation.

I have no problem with being referred to as they/them, but I'm sure gender-conforming pronouns would also be beneficial to trans people.

I don't really mind cause it's just a fictional character to me and you can always mess around with looks if you want something closer to the other. I can understand people want it there, though yeah it's Japanese game aaaand people should probably read up on that culture/language, it's quite different from us.

I'm really not comfortable being constantly misgendered :/ I hope they will add an option in the future. I understand being gender neutral is to be more inclusive but it could be improved upon

Like I haven't played in a bit (first time today in a while) and Hazel still talked to me about the dinosaur fossil dream. Like you couldn't even remark that I was gone for a while??? That would had been a breath of fresh air.

No let's talk about that dream and dinosaur mortgage for the 500th time.

There's a lot more that should be addressed before something like this. All the other games have had villagers call you by the name of your villager, a nickname chosen by you or them, or referred to you as they. They being when there is another in the conversation.

Choosing pronouns would've been best, but if they wanted to go for non-chooseable pronouns, I personally think they is the best option IMO. They feels neutral and feels more inclusive.

(If anyone is wondering, I don't actually go by they as my pronoun in real life, so it's not a bias there.)

All previous games had the animals refer to you as he or she based on if you said you were male or female at the beginning, but I agree there's much bigger issues with the game

Yeah it's like I spilled food, bugs, I named my abs etc. so honestly I never noticed this anyway and I just skip dialogue/don't care about it anyway. I think I'd be more uncomfortable if I was forced to choose to be fair.

Also I can think of other reasons why they didn't include this to be able to release it as well.
