There's usually a stat increase, different ability, different type, etc.

I didn't with the team I used to beat the game but now I have a mega chairzard. I also caught all the base forms of the mega pokemon and I'm gonna slowly but surely train them them all up.

Lol, I agree with the part that they should give Luxray a mega evo.

Mega evos are still good, and I may use them once in a while, but Sceptile, Luxray and Typhlosion deserve mega evos because of how awesome they are, lol.

You should be using mega evolution on your main team.

Mega evolution makes the most powerful pokemon even more powerful.

Gengar and Alakazam are the fastest special sweepers in the game and they also have mega forms which makes them ridiculously powerful.
