In a physical copy of Blue that my brother currently has custody too, I nicknamed my entire team. I forgot their names. RIP!
In my first play-through of Crystal via the E-shop virtual version, I nicknamed my entire team as well. I also forgot their names. But also, I made some comics of them, gave them personalities, and it was just...awesome. However, the team never made it past the 8th gym. RIP!
Now in my current save-slots of Crystal and Silver via the E-shop virtual versions, I have beaten both with one Pokemon per version, and they had really stupid nicknames.
I want to restart Omega Ruby (virtual version) ONE day. I prepared a Tangela named Bunbun for the occassion. Idk why I named her that, but I really don't know.
Ultra Moon and Yellow (both virtual versions) has no nicknamed Pokemon, and I don't care.

Nicknaming makes you feel attached unless there's a nonsense type joke behind it. Then you just don't care. :)

I used to not since I’m terrible at coming up with names and still am honestly embarrassed by the names that I named them back in my Pokemon Red days lol, but I’ve been naming thrm in my Pokemon Sword save file and I named a few in Pokemon Violet.

In Violet, I named my Sprigatito Zahira which I believe in Arabic means to shine, since at the time I was trying to get a shiny sprigatito and needed extra luck (did not ever get it lol). Also, I just thought the name was really beautiful! I love Arabic names.

I named my Iron Hands after Bartolomeo Las Casas, a priest who spoke up against the Conquistadors’ atrocities against indigenous people in the Americas. I was thinking of naming my shiny litwick in Sword after him too, but my litwick ended up being female so I have to think of a different name now lol.

In sword, this is what I have named so far:

Shiny Decidueye - Che.

Shiny SirFetch’d - Rocinante - Don Quixote’s horse in Cervantes’ novel (the horse was male and my Pokemon is female though; may rename it and if I get a second shiny SirFetch’d with better stats and is male, maybe give it that name). Originally I was going to go with Corazon since looking at the name on a naming website it is a female name, though the character I know in One Piece with the name was male (his real name was Rocinante too; I was partially going to name my pokemon after the character and also because of the novel since I looked up more about what the horse represented in the book and though Rocinante would be pretty appropriate to name it).

Shiny Munchlax - MunchyDLuffy.

Corviknight - Crow after Akechi’s code name in Persona 5. Unfortunately, my pokemon is female so I plan on renaming later and if I breed for another with better stats, name it something else.

Hawlucha - Zapata after the Mexican Revolutionary Emiliano Zapata. I thought the non shiny version seemed to look better for this name idea, but I think I may try for one later since I want some full shiny teams.

Shiny Perrserker - Bygul after one of Freya’s cats (if the site I read about it is correct). The name means honey gold. One of my team ideas is having Pokemon with names from history and mythology.

Shiny Lapras - Neuvillette from Genshin Impact. The blue goes better with him since his aesthetic is blue, but I had to make an exception because the character is special to me and he deserved to be shiny (I’m not saying the people or characters I named off but didn’t get a shiny of aren’t). I was debating between having a shiny and normal version and naming the normal version after him but I know I’d use the shiny one more

Shiny Azumarill - Osiris after the Egyptian god, who I believe (unless the sources are wrong) was associated in some sense to hares. Had it been a female, I would have named it after Unut or Wenet. I was considering a yellow rabbit in Arabic mythology but I read that references can be misunderstand and seen as disrespectful since it shares the name with a religious term.

Shiny Appletun - Paimon from Genshin Impact (Japanese pronunciation).

I have more name ideas in the process. Still have to name my Shiny Litwick (haven’t evolved it yet). I had two or three ideas had it been male but since it ended up being female, no idea what to name it. Also have built a few non-shinies that I want to name like a Togekiss, but no idea yet what I want to name them.

Ever since Soul Silver I started naming my main team after book or anime characters.

Right now I’m playing Za and my team is

Chikorita: Cinnamon
Alpha Pidgeot: Hatori (from Kakuriyo)
Dragonair: Saphira (from Eragon)
Shiny Alpha Pyroar: Sarabi (from Lion King…I got a female with a good nature so I settled)
Shiny Flaafy: Cotton Candy
Lucario: Nimoy (I love Star Trek so all of my lucarios are named after the actor who played Spock)

I always have since I started playing at the age of 8, my favourite nicknames I've ever given is Saltshaker the Chimecho (Pearl) and Orbreezy the Yanmega (Heartgold)! I also once had a Heartgold team where I named my team after Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! characters, lol.
