Do you try to limit having more than 1 of the same species?

Nah. I did plan on it originally but I like cycling through the villagers so I'm currently at 3 ostriches and 2 eagles. Going to try to get my third eagle out of the void.

I tried. And failed.

I have Dom & Stella, Pierce & Avery and Judy & Stitches. Idk if Pierce and Avery will stay forever, but it looks like they both will at this point, I like them both, esp Pierce.

I've no issues with having 2-3 of the same species as I love Dobie, Lobo, and a lot of the other wolves. I try to have a variety otherwise though as it does make the island more interesting. 🥰

I really didn't consider this, haha. I have 4 wolves and 4 deer... but it doesn't really bother me.

Kind of. I didn't invite a few villagers I met on mystery islands or in my campsite because I already had someone from the same species. I passed on some really popular villagers.

But now I have two horses, Roscoe and Reneigh. I only planned on having Reneigh. I really like her design, and she was the one I wanted the most from the sisterly personality.

My last two spots I want for cats. I haven't even found one yet, though. Looking for Kiki, Lolly, and Punchy.

i don’t. i like a lot of villagers that are of the same species so as long as i love the villager, i don’t really care what species they are - once i have all 10 dreamies, i’ll have 3 deers, 2 wolves and 2 cats and i’m good with that aha

Personally, I love it when I have a diverse array of villager species, but the cat villagers are testing me because so many are so cute.
I have 9 different species. Kitty and Raymond are my favourites so I have 2 cats. I prefer this so much more than before when I only had 5 different species.

Not really, I don’t mind having a lot of the same species as long as it’s something I like.

For the most part. I've made some exceptions... like I have Dobie and Freya right now, but Dobie is a permanent resident, and I needed a snooty lady, and I love Freya's name/appearance and was running low on NMT when I found her 😅 Plus, she says "uff da" and so do I, because I am a true Minnesotan.

Also, cats are the exception. You can NEVER have too many cats. EVER 😼

I did want to have all my villagers be different species, and I did have it set that way since the beginning for the longest time, though I ended up getting Gwen last night so now I have 2 penguins on my island. Oh well.

I did at first, but in the end I think my preferences for certain villagers trumped keeping only one of each species. And if they're at least different personalities, they still feel different to me since they all have different voices and designs. I didn't let Clay stop me from getting my boy Rodney

Ideally, that would be so cool to have a really diverse town. However, sometimes, things get out of control and the game seems to give you things you didn’t ask for. Like four cute villagers of the same species at the same time and you’re just like, eh, whatever. I’ll keep them all. But you can never go wrong with cats, wolves, cubs and squirrels. Most of them are too cute for their own good.

I try but I can’t help what I want lol, I have 3 dogs and if I ever find Lucky he’ll be my fourth. I do worry sometimes about having too many of one species but as long as they have different personalities I think it’s okay

I would prefer just one of each species it's a tough cut for the slim 10 dreamies which brings me to having to decide between merry and bob.. surprisingly this is the first time I went with merry in my head mostly because bob is on my island in a starter house and I have no idea if I'll ever see merry (no wifi)

For this game, no. I'm just going with whatever villagers I like, regardless of personality or species. I put a personality and species rule against myself for New Leaf (i.e. no more than one villager of a particular species, and at least one of each personality with no more than two of a given personality). Looking back, I found those constraints to be kind of artificial, without really a good reason besides for the sake of enforcing such a rule. I might end up doing the same in the future, but most likely not for now.

When I first started I insisted that I wanted 10 different species, but now I've got 3 cats and 2 buns who, at the moment are keepers :)
