I was originally going to hard limit myself to one villager per species, but the wolves eventually won me over. I got Kyle on a mystery island hunt and Vivian through an Amiibo. I was going to let Kyle go once Vivian moved in, but I need the smug personality on my island and he suits it so well that he’s staying permanently now.
I like the Dog and the Deer villagers especially, with certain Bears coming in third. Right now I've got a gamut of species on the island, no two alike.
No, I'm more into limiting personality types, so one of each at least. I was thinking of having the same villagers as in NL but since we have new characters I like the dynamic changed a lot. But it's nice. I have 3 cats and 2 bunnies now instead of a bunch of squirells. I feel like I had 1/2-2/3 of the squirells in the game at some point in New Leaf, even with the same personalities.
Originally I wanted to get Beau on my island, as he's a particular favorite of mine.
Then Erik showed up first, and it was like... well alright you'll do for now. Except now I really like Erik. Dang. A few weeks later Zell moved in because I missed a day of playing without remembering that one of my villagers was leaving and then Zell moved in on his own. Well... but now I have two deer, where am I going to put Beau!? Except then I really liked Zell too. Yesterday Beau showed up on a mystery island and I actually had to argue with myself for like 20 minutes about whether to invite him. Like he's a dreamie of mine but I already have two deer, and I want a variety of friends!
So that's the story of how a nature preserve became overrun with deer because one person just couldn't say no to even a single one that showed up.
Not intentionally, but I do also like to see a diverse population of villagers! & yes the cats are so adorbs! Makes me want an all cat villagers island too, but I’m not so sure I wanna give up the diversity. It is very tempting thooo
I honestly don’t care about villager diversity; I just choose the ones I like. I do have all different species atm, but that’s more of a coincidence than anything else.
I think it’s cool when people have only 1 species of villager. I’d make an elephant-only town if we had smug/uchi/peppy elephants in NH.
Nope! I love cat villagers and am going to try to have all of my favorites in my town; Punchy, Kiki, Rosie, Merry, Ankha, Raymond, Rudy & Lolly. Roscoe and Marshal (when I get him) will be my non-cat villagers, though now I want Sherb too so I might make some adjustments to this plan. I’ve been limiting how many of each personality I have though. I have three peppies atm and that has proven to be too much for me lol.
No. I get why people set certain limitations on themselves for villagers, but for me it makes it less fun. I prefer to just have whatever villagers I feel like, rather than restrict myself.
In the beginning, I did hope to get a bunch of different species, but now I actually like having multiples of the same species because sometimes you catch them hanging out together and get fun moments like this:
Yeah, definitely. I don’t like multiple villagers of the same species in my town. I also don’t like having multiple villagers of the same colour, so sorry Twiggy and Mira, you gals are gonna have to go at some point cause you’re clashing with Willow over here.
I don't really focus on what species my villagers are as long as I like them, so I don't restrict to one of each. I have 3 cats so far, but it's true I'd love to have a rabbit someday !
