I have a feeling they will definitely be bringing back the Sanrio villagers via an update considering that they're also available in Pocket Camp and the fact that you can acquire their posters.
I hope they do as I have all the cards.

I remember having banter with my BF because I told him Off the Hook Marina can't be a squirrel since it's established Inklings are Squirrels. Though I wonder how'd they make OtH Marina as a villager since both Marinas are octopuses lol.

You get posters based on the sanrio character they're inspired by (so for Marty you should've gotten a pompompurin poster), but not of them, sadly. I really hope they and all the other crossover villagers come back! I also hope someday we get Zelda posters and stuff similar to the sanrio ones, I was really sad when I found out the sanrio villagers give you posters but the other ones don't give you anything at all.
