I was stolen from a while back in 2015 in October, it sucked because they were a good friend of mine, so it hurt me even more...so be careful of who your friends are (and make sure they have a high WiFi rating)

I would think it is inevitable. I think It would depend on how item permissions and saving is handled.

Yes unfortunately. You just have to be careful with who you let in, which is a shame really.

Most of my experience with thieves happened around when the game was released, a group I played with used to have people who would leave their gate opened. It was great having the freedom to roam unattended but there was someone in the group who started to mess with people's towns. It never happened to me personally but it made me always keep pairs of hybrids in my locker just in case.

Some people used to pick my clovers when I let them visit though. I guess they thought they were helping me weed haha

I'd like to see detailed permission settings. Separate options to allow visitors to interact with flowers, ground furniture, ground items, house items, talking to villagers, accessing the host's storage, et cetera.

Hopefully there will be more precautions in place this time around. Maybe settings that will disallow visitors from picking your flowers and chopping down trees etc.

I've been thinking about the potential of thieves in this game a lot lately. I want to play multiplayer, but I also plan on working on hybrids right away, and I don't want to have to worry about them. I wonder if you could use the fences, assuming that visitors wouldn't be able to pick up your fences, to fence in your hybrids and thus prevent anyone from getting to them.

I've been listening to an animal crossing podcast and one of the guys there said that he wished that if you had visitors over and they messed with your town, Copper or Booker would show up and fine them bells. Then you would get notified and been given the bells. That would be an interesting concept to implement. I know it is probably one of your "in your dreams" moments, but something like that would probably discourage a lot of people.

Someone stole some flowers from me once, but I usually keep a pretty good eye on whoever is in my town, and I try to not just leave things lying around anyway. I'm sure eventually it will happen to somebody on here, but I don't think it was eve a big problem or anything.

They weren't in my town.

They never showed up.
That was the problem, and as a result I had a random move in when I loaded the game, that moved in front of a bridge, as I didn't know about plot resetting at that stage, so I got nothing from the trade and they kept the payment.

I won't trade with anyone I don't trust.
