Do you think there will be more sea creatures to dive for than New Leaf?

I'm not getting my hopes up. I'd rather keep my expectations reasonable and be surprised than to expect so much and be disappointed. I'm here to have fun with the experience that will be given to us in a few days.

New Leaf had 72 bugs and fish to catch while New Horizons has 80. in keeping with the "rounding up to the next tens" theme, id imagine that they might add 2 or 7 more diving creatures.

I'm guessing it will be slightly more. For sure it will be a rounded number for the Nook Mile achievement that will come with it. I'm guessing 35 or 40.

If anyone can find the datamine to double check. I think the number for the Manila Clams in the code is around #93 give or take, my memory is garbage. That either means we have about as many sea creatures we do as fish, or they're part of the fish encyclopedia in the code.

Edit: Or was it #53? I honestly can't remember for sure. Either way, I think we'll get a few more if anything.

For some reason, I have doubts that the manila clam would be one of the sea creatures we'd be able to donate. Kind of just because they have to be dug up, which doesn't fit since the rest are caught by diving. Plus it's a material, and no other creature has been used as a material. So it might just be it's own unique thing. I could be wrong though

I'm just expecting the same amount. What if they give us a rare, thought to be extinct sea creature that we can find called Neptune's Cup? I wonder how that joke would go.

I would have to agree with most of the people on here and say it'll probably be at least the same amount as New Leaf, although I'm hoping they'll add a couple more.

It was just 33 in nl? Why did i feel it was more! Anyway, i think they might add a few more but i wouldnt mind if they didnt because i felt we had a good amount in nl.

I'm just too excited for the update! 🎶

I hope they at least match NL and dont try to break the amount of creatures in half with the rest coming in August. 🥺

I'm hoping that they add a few new ones to the mix instead of just giving us all the same ones from new leaf.
I'm excited for the update either way!

I remember the datamine categorizing the manila clam as a "sea creature" with empty cells before and after it which suggested another category besides fish and bugs and that's why many pretty much figured diving was coming back long before this upcoming update. It could just be that Manila Clams are in the same encyclopedia as the rest of the sea creatures, but can't be donated. Won't know for sure until July 3rd.

I'm also speculating that some other sea creatures will be used as materials for the mermaid set, either that or there will be shells only obtained by diving (ie. Pearl Oysters, that use to be obtain on the shores in NL).

July 3 can't come soon enough! Will this be one of those releases where I get it at 9p PST because it's midnight on the East Coast?

I'm expecting 10 to keep my expectations really low so I can be pleasantly surprised with whatever amount we get.

i hope so! i think that if they do add some new ones, they won’t add a bunch of new ones - maybe around 5 or 8? either way, july 3rd is taking forever lmaoo

In New Leaf, it's just called "clam". There are many species of clam. They could just pick another aside from manila clam to put underwater.

Yes, I believe it was confirmed in an official Japanese tweet it’ll come out July 2nd 6pm PT. Same time other major updates release.

I feel like they definitely will add a few more, since we have seen new bugs and fish (compared to NL)

But the pearls are a crafting material and we‘ll probably have to dive for them, unless they are in a new shell.
