Its a combination of Fear Mongering, Mayan Prophecy and paranoia.
The fact is in the last Decade there have been several 'Doomsday' Predictions, including Y2K, The 2007 'Nuclear Holocaust' and many others. So i think this is just another one of theese.

No, cursing is mostly for ranting and comedy purposes. If you have enough common sense you would ignore simple words and get straight to the point. All curse words meant less offensive things before whatever changed their meanings.
