Do you prefer your villager's houses clumped together in a "neighborhood" area or spread across your island?

As the title says! I've seen people do both, and was wondering what other people's preferences are.

I have had both going on my island. I'm not sure which one I like better. The houses being spread out throughout the island feels more like Animal Crossing to me, but the neighborhoods are just so adorable. And this is why I keep moving my houses around.

At first, I had villagers spread all over the island. But then I moved them into two individual neighborhoods because I wanted more room for adding little things to my island! I do like the little neighborhoods.

I'm planning on having the houses in little clusters of two or three around the island but in a more natural way not lined up exactly perfect

I don’t mind clumps of villager houses together as long as they aren’t cookie cutter or boxy.

I have them spread out with their own individual-sized front yards. This has allowed me to customize it based on the area they’re in (i.e. Vivian has a beachfront walkway, Bam has fishing gear set up near a pond, etc.)

I had a sort of neighborhood area in NL with some houses being closer than others and i liked it except for the fact that villagers stuck to that area and didn't wander into others. I hear this is not a problem here as villagers can hang out anywhere, but i still want to do something a little different than NL and spread them more in pairs.

I struggled with this. I'd like to have them spread out since that goes better with the vibe I'm aiming for in my island, but I'm really bad at placing things in a way that's sorta random but still looks good, so I ended up making two neighborhoods and giving each character their own yard. I recently posted my island map.

I personally enjoy spreading my houses out because it makes it feel more island-like or rural, but I'm not against the neighborhoods.

i have them all in a tidy little neighbourhood for now, since i'm trying to make bells and breed hybrids... i don't have room to spread them out at the moment. i have 3 residence houses(i needed more storage since it's been over 2 weeks for flick and cj has been over a week as well and i don't TT/online turnips), two are off in a neighbourhood by my campsite and my main is up in the upper right.

I originally had my villagers' houses spread out but it's kinda irritating to run all around to check to see who is crafting DIYs and I also don't like how it feels like that takes up so much space.

I am currently making a neighborhood area for them that's space efficient and looks nice. It's just annoying because you can only move 1 building per day and I don't TT. I also had to move my house out of the way first to make this area, so this is being about a 2 week long project. But I'll finally be done later this week.

My houses in new leaf were naturally clustered in 2-3 districts so I planned to recreate the same thing in new horizons ;u; The thought of my villagers being lonely & isolated in one part of the town somehow makes me sad hahaha One area will be a more developed central "town" area and the other more natural/countryside

I like organization...mentally it just looks better and stable to me. Theyre always clumped together in their own little village

I'm thinking of doing neighborhoods so there is more space for my island and some non neighborhoods for variety.

I went with a neighborhood and I have my house placed on one level above it. I think its a nice touch and really convenient when you're checking for DIYs. I also do amiibo cycling once in awhile and its just easier to remember who lives where when the houses are organized!

I plan on spreading my villagers out but giving them each a "neighbor" of sorts. Meaning, they'll be lined up in pairs across my island.

I think of “neighborhoods,” as I have seen in some YouTube-published videos, like a group of condominiums close together and with little yard space. They get a backyard—maybe; maybe not. (With an association fee.)

“Spread out,” which is what I have, reminds me more of having houses in at least the suburbs, where the islanders have plenty of space in their backyards.

Benefit of the condo-like thing is with being able to put even more on the island. (Sections of sections of space devoted to separate activities.)

Benefit of spread out-type concept is giving the islanders their own space and having to navigate the island to go from one islander to the next. (Which, come to think, is something players should be doing anyway.)

They both have their purposes.

This may not be the best analogy. But, I think it is a choice players make with, perhaps, envisioning what they want their island to become.

I did a neighborhood! In past games, I'd had them spread out, so I wanted to try something different. I like it so far! It leaves the rest of my island to design more freely.

I had a neighbourhood for a while, but I much prefer them spread out now. The island feels more alive and my villagers have much larger plots.

I like the idea of a neighborhood, but at the same time, having houses in various locations can create some interesting ideas. For example, I have Pashmina secluded in a forest looking area, while I have Marshal, Hopkins, and Boyd sort of closer together, but not exactly next door.
