Island hopping or trading, it depends!

When I first started, I hadn't played animal crossing in a loooong while so I went through pages of villagers and wrote down the ones I liked best, then proceeded to trade for them.

But now I also want to meet other villagers and see who I get along with, regardless of how cute I find them. I would actually feel like missing out a lot if I kept the same set of villagers for like a year? So I rely entirely on island hopping now! Plus as I'm getting lazy with my daily chores it's good to get some deforesting done on those mystery islands!

I still trade to get my villagers adopted though, I don't like them going to the void!

I would also go with Amibo cards. Lol
But I’m curious, what is the campsite method?

Island hopping, but I also moved a few in with amiibo and I adopted one from someone on here.
If I can't find a villager on an island that I want I usually adopt or use another amiibo card.

The campsite method was effective for me but at the cost of great anxiety because I spent 3 days doing it, met every single smug villager in the game, and then endured another 9 campers of different personalities before Raymond showed up. He was camper #72. I don't think I want to try it again. o_O

I prefer island hopping. It's not effective, but I feel it works as long as I'm not looking for any specific villager. Island-hopping (spending 10-15 tickets each time) has gotten me Wolfgang, Rolf, Tangy and Zucker. :)

Trading is something I hope to avoid. Lately, though, I've been looking at videos of Dom and, if I develop a terrible and lasting urge to get him to my island, I reckon it's faster to adopt him from someone than to island-hop. :cautious:

I like island hopping. I've only done it twice since the original 10 villagers so don't feel burned out yet. I think it's fun if you don;t have a specific villager in mind, and I like that you can do it all in one in-game day. I haven't tried the campsite method but it seems kind of exhausting honestly and I don't want to time travel months ahead like that. Villager trading i haven't done either, but I think i'd rather find my own villagers for now.

amiibos.

but before I quit island hopping, I preferred that. my dreamie list was looong (like 30-40 villagers) so i had a big pool to pick from. Though for my final lineup I just decided to amiibo in the personalities I was missing.

Island hopping for me! It is tedious buuut you get furniture/DIY’s etc whilst doing it and when you see a villager you like it’s such a good feeling! Campsite method for me is tedious and the weeds etc you accumulate ughhhhh 🥺☹️

I’ve gone with Amiibo cards after my initial six villagers. It’s easy, I get exactly who I want, and I already bought cards for my favorites previously, so I figure I might as well use them. I was concerned that my town would feel too similar to prior games, but I got a bunch of starter villagers I liked, so I do feel like I have enough variety. My main issue is that a lot of my favorites are lazy, and they go to bed before I play on weeknights. In ACNL, I changed the clock, but I haven’t wanted to permanently turn off internet sync and mess up time in some other games for ACNH, so so far, I’ve been trying to play in real time.

I don’t care for trading. Between the early glitches and the state of the economy, I don’t feel like it’s worth it. Island hopping can be fun, but it gets addictive/has a gambling-type component that gets draining after a while. I liked it better for the first three housing plots, but now that I only have until 5 am to find a new villager, or else I get a random one, it feels too risky to me. Campsite villagers are somewhat nice, but they’re infrequent, and I don’t care for not being able to easily control who they bump out of I don’t use Amiibo.

i dont have many dreamies (maybe 3?) so island hopping introduces me to new villagers ive never met before

I like to do a bit of everything!! although island hopping can get boring after a while! and the canpsite method makes you have loas of weeds:((

I voted for island hopping, but I think that each of the methods has its own benefits depending on what you're looking to do.

If you want a particular villager and don't have any other villagers of that personality, I've heard the campsite method can be quite effective. However, you have to be willing to time travel to do it.

If you're looking to fill a slot and have a list of many villagers you're willing to accept or are open to finding anyone, island hopping can be very fun! You also can farm for resources while you're at it. It does require NMT, however.

If you want a specific villager, you don't want to time travel for them, and you don't want to risk running out of NMTs before you get them, I'd trade for a villager. After all, you can offer more than just NMT to do it. However, for some people they may find it 'easy', and there is always the risk of getting scammed.

Island hopping cuz I love to meet new villagers and even though I have a dreamy list I'm not really sticking to it. If I see a cute villager while island hopping I will invite them even if they are not on my list.

Island hopping.
I used the campsite to get raymond but it took me 4irl days I got every single smug except him,Julian and colton aka smugs I like. I started trying to get Lucky and Vesta before I just gave up with it.

When I island hop I have more lenient goals of what I want so I'm not disappointed.
The campsite method just takes in game years to go anywhere.

Adding I don't trade my internet is too bad lately

while the campsite method has higher chances of success, island hopping is more fun for me personally :>

amiibo cards are definitely easiest so they're my fave! not counting them, i'd go with island hopping. it gets tiring, but you can get furniture and DIYs from it, and there's always the chance of finding a cool rare island too. the campsite method is definitely the most effective though, in comparison to island hopping. i managed to get raymond after 30 something villagers, but resetting and time traveling so much is such a pain! there's something especially draining about the campsite method. i guess it's because you don't really get to play the game apart from checking isabelle's announcement and checking the campsite. that and it can take FOREVER for campsite visitors to show up! if campsite visitors were guaranteed every 8-9 days (or if you could just reset the day you get a visitor like in new leaf), i'd probably feel differently.

Luckily none of my faves are new so I bought all their cards off etsy like a year ago in preparation.

Island hopping. I like the randomness of it and the fact that you can just keep going back until you get a villager you like. But I'm really not fussy about my villagers, all the ones I desperately want, I have an amiibo for. So it's not hard for me to find a villager that's acceptable to me - last time I got Tom, times before that I got Nan, Chevre, Poppy and Fauna.

Campsite has been mostly villagers I don't like and then you have to go a whole week or more before you get another. But the plus side to the campsite is you don't need to wait for a plot to come free.
