“just a normal day, except you get cake” sounds just about right to me lol. this is probably gonna sound depressing but i’ve honestly never really done anything extravagant for my birthday, not even when i was younger. i usually just receive a few presents + cards, stuff my face with some cake/cupcakes and then call it a day haha. i’ll also stay home from school if my birthday falls on a weekday.
I don’t like birthday parties. I kind of don’t like bringing attention to myself, so I stoped celebrating my birthday about two years ago. I make a habit of not reminding anyone. I still like presents though, but I rather people just give them to me the days after lol. Feels like less pressure.
I also don’t work on my birthday.
I’ve only had a handful of birthday parties and they were all in elementary. I don’t celebrate my birthday and idk why but it annoys me when people even mention it. So usually on my birthday I turn my phone on silent and disable people from posting on my facebook wall lol
I love chilling with just my best friends on my actual birthday, but also love having birthday parties with other friends in addition to that (usually held on my bday weekend). Ideally these parties are done with another friend who also has a May birthday so the party is not just for me. I did this a lot in college but now that I graduated and moved away I'm not sure when I'll have parties like this again since I dont have any friends where I currently live.....
My birthday falls in May, so in recent years I have taken it as an excuse to take a short vacation before flight and hotel prices rocket. Sometimes I go alone and other times I bring a friend along.
Aside from that, my parents will typically take me out to a restaurant for a meal and my two closest friends will each plan to do something as well (if not already included in my vacation plan). These tend to fall on other days of the week rather than my birthday itself - I've found that as an adult I typically end up spending the actual day alone.
usually i invite a friend or two over for some cake or something, nothing special. although i had a larger party (10-20 ppl) on my 16th birthday, we went out to eat at my favorite restaurant.
not a huge party goer, but i do like an excuse to do something fun with my friends <3 (and get sweets and presents, haha)
it would more likely be like a "let's go do this specific thing" than a party, tho. if we're not doing something specific, then just sort of a 'come and hang out' thing, not really a party. very rarely do i actually have a proper party with like a start time and proper Party Foods and things like that. usually we just sort of all hang out and eat pizza and either watch movies or play games or something. it's more festive than a 'normal day' bc i don't frequently get to see my friends in person, but just a chill day with friends really : )
None of the options in the poll fit me at all?
I want cake, presents, and my family. I don't have any irl friends! Also, we usually leave the house to do at least one thing.
I haven't had a lot of birthday parties. The last time I had an actual birthday party was in Grade 4, and even then there were only 2 other kids from my class who were invited and came over. But honestly, I like it more this way. Having a relaxing day where I can just chill and stay home, have some food brought in, get some presents and cake and only be surrounded by my family is the way to go.
I don’t like making a big fuss out of my birthdays and I hate being the center of attention. So just a regular day for me, but with cake of course. I can’t pass up the opportunity to have some delicious cake! I never had birthday parties when I was a kid so it doesn’t feel any different. My mother use to just take the birthday person out to eat on the weekend of their birthday and buy a fruitcake from a bakery in Chinatown which sadly is no longer there. For some reason she always got fruitcake, I use to hate it when I was younger but now I kinda miss it. I do like going to other people’s birthday parties though (pre-pandemic). One of my close friend really knows how to go all out for their birthday, it was always a good time!
Birthdays in my family usually just means extended family coming over, going out for dinner, and getting a store-bought cake lol. I don't generally see my friends on my birthday, usually because it's in the middle of exam season I have like 3 friends, and I don't like to see most of my extended family, so I don't think I'll ever have a giant 50+ person gathering birthday party.
I'd absolutely love to have a holiday as a birthday treat one year, I love travelling so much
On one or two birthdays I did go out with friends but one was to celebrate others birthdays that were in may. Most of the time nothing happens except my family ordering takeout food or taking me out for dinner on the day of or week of my birthday.
I usually I don't do anything for my birthday beyond my parents taking us out for dinner sometime during my birthday month. Sometimes mom will make me something, sometimes I buy myself a cake. Honestly, since age 13 or 14 my birthdays are generally pretty uneventful which is ok.
