so would most people in this thread tbh

"i'm gonna move to canada if trump becomes president!!!11"

no you ****in' won't.

That's what I told my mom. I can complain all I want about Trump; when it comes down to it though, I will have to live through his presidency if he gets elected. I can whine and complain and say "Imagine if I lived somewhere else!" But that's all it. I can only imagine.

I don't really have many opinions on much about American culture because I live here and everything is relatively normal to me cus perspective, but I have very ill feelings towards the country because of the healthcare system.

One of my biggest fears is going into debt due to some sort of injury/illness out of my control. It's like a reverse lottery except you're much more likely to hit the jackpot.

Only reason I dislike that is that it's, yet again, more of that bull**** "worst generation ever" nonsense that people throw around.

Well unless they have the money saved and the opportunity to do that, probably not. Doesn't make it less legit to complain though even if he's just a PR-trick with a bunch of bs opinions that loves to be a loudmouth ass.

Well we are in a way the worst generation, at least if you compare to the people making changes in the late 60s and the 70s fighting for something important and certain countries aiding the independence struggle in i.e Third-world countries, women/gay rights and so on. Yes today we might feel more privileged and feeling the need to only use "Clicktivism" and donate to random charities we don't know about, and every country like in the world being afraid asf about being labeled "socialist/communist (at least that was before a more proud word if used correctly, a contradic if used for countries not being that...)

Even if our own countries are more or less privileged (and maybe to a certain clique of groups like white etc., there are still things to do, in and outside whatever country you live in. Sadly a lot of right-center governments think helping is bs and all they do is removing collective care and replacing it with fees you need to pay to have competition and bad care(unless you actually can pay the $2000 for a simple operation..)

It has it's ups and downs. I would like to live somewhere else but I'm pretty sure I'm going to become homesick. I would enjoy traveling and visiting other places but I still do like my home country. It's kinda like that feeling when you hate school but you still go.
So it's ight. It's sht but still ight.

It's okay. There's always going to be better countries, but there's always going to be worse. There are a lot of things that are going wrong here at the moment, and hopefully they'll get fixed eventually, but it is what it is.

Never been, plan to take a trip to NY in spring time for research and to visit the art galleries
I love the sky scrapers. I think they're gonna overwhelm me.. and the grid like layout of the city, and yellow taxis omg
I can't wait. I'd love to emigrate to the US.. maybe on the coast somewhere

Ugh I really don't like America. It's not like I don't like the land or whatever, it's the people and stuff.
Like I live in the south (not south south where the really dumb people are, though) and a lot of people here do a lot of dumb things. Once on the news it showed that some woman got glued to a toilet in Wal-Mart.
Yeah...
But as for the bigger cities, I think it's pretty nice. I guess it's just where I live that's making me feel this way about America. I'd definitely move out of the country when I get older, though.

I've lived in quite a few states and I am currently in Utah. Utah is hands down one of the most beautiful states I have ever been in. My town in nestled right next to the mountains and if you drive a few hours south, it's desert landscape. I miss beaches, however. Overall, the landscape of the United States is simply gorgeous and so diverse depending on what state(s) you've been to.

My biggest complaint is, of course, the people. But you get crappy people no matter where you live so I don't let it bother me all too much.

The country needs work to catch up with other developed countries, yes, but overall I love my country and couldn't imagine living anywhere else (although I do LOVE traveling, I will always come back home)

I will also add I lived in Japan for 3 years, not just the states, so I have something to compare it to.

The people who think it's the greatest country ever are probably really young or are only speaking in terms of geographically. If you look at America from a political/sociological point of view it's pretty ****ed up.

Yeah, even though I like the country, I don't think it's the only good place. In fact, it isn't that great. The main reason I said I "love" it is because of my family being from here.

I live in America, born and raised

and yes, Americans can be annoying

Racist, homophobes, bible thumpers and atheist flame wars.

But there are some Americans that keep opinions to themselves, call older people mam or sir (or by their last name if you know it), have good manners, and just try have a good quailty of life.

Yes I call older people mam and sir don't judge

Nothing wrong with loving your home country. I was mainly referring to that one kid who was yelling and saying "it's the best country out there and anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot" lmao.

YES. AMERICA IS THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WHOLE WORD.

IF YOU THINK OTHERWISE, YOU'RE WRONG-O BUSTER!

THE UK IS ESPECIALLY THE WORST. THEY SAY THINGS SUPER WEIRD OVER THERE!

SORRY BRIT-BOYS, BUT IT'S CALLED SOCCER, NOT FOOTBALL! FOOTBALL IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAME!

ALSO IT'S COLOR, NOT COLOUR. AND SHOP NOT SHOPPE.

THERE IS LITERALLY NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY!

SORRY BUT IT'S TRUE, AND IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER OPINIONS KEEP IT TO YOURSELVES, IDIOTS!

lmao wtf

yeah this is one of the things that puts me off the idea of emigration.

Yeah, all places have problems. I don't think there's a "superior" country in this world. I remember, back in 2012, my uncle kept going on and on about how I thought Japan was superior to the United States even though I don't think so. I think some things in Japan are better, but I mean, they've had a quarter-century of economic stagnation, so I don't think it's superior.
What annoys me the most is when people say that there's no country superior to the United States and then they go off and say that certain parts, such as the South, are superior. If the United States really was superior, wouldn't the whole thing be superior?

Out of curiosity where you are at do people like being called ma'am & sir? I've found that a lot of people the older people here don't like it!

If you are talking about really young kids (under the age of 13), then yeah they might think that America is the best country in the world because they have been socialized by their parents to think that way and really there are not many parents around the world who teach their kids to not like their country. People in their late teens and young adults who can actually get their own information are more aware of America's weaknesses than older people. Young people are more likely to realize that America is not a post-racial society, that the LGBT community is not made up of monsters possessed by the devil, that income inequality and climate change are real problems, and that war should be avoided whenever possible since war has tremendous costs and consequences and war is not just about going in and kicking a** and looking strong. A lot of young people support Bernie Sanders for president and he openly acknowledges that America is lacking in many areas compared to other developed countries.

Older people are more likely to think that capitalism, Christianity, guns, oil, and a huge military make America special and that anyone who questions that is against American values. Really the biggest problem with America is that to Americans this post is seen as a politically charged post while to most people who live outside of America, this is probably not very controversial. In every developed country, people debate the social and economic consequences of ideas and policies and some are good and some are bad, but in America we debate whether people are good or evil, or whether they love or hate America.

America's history is filled with a lot of good things like our pursuit of democracy and freedom of speech and our technological innovations, but it is also filled with a lot of bad things like stealing land from and killing Native Americans, slave labor and the racism which followed, and unnecessary wars which have killed millions of people. America is not terrible, but it's not perfect either, and the more people who can acknowledge that, the better off the U.S. will be.
