Do you like America (USA)?

How do you feel about the US?

if trump or Hillary becomes president, im moving to Germany. if Obama tries to stay president, im also gonna leave for Germany.

I've never been there but this 'freedom i can do what i want including crapping on everyone sick' politics is just disgusting.

It has it's good and bad parts, but I'm okay with living here. I've done some traveling outside the US and it was really fun, but coming back home is always such a relief, I think I'm good with staying here.

I'm not crazy patriotic or proud of everything the US does, but I do like the way of living is around here.

I mean, it's definitely got its perks and I do like it here, but lately it seems like this country has been going downhill.

I'm glad I live here because I think there are a lot of worse places I could be living, but I've been really disappointed by some of what's been going on here lately. Regardless, there are still lots of things I like about it here and I plan on sticking around, but I'm not totally attached to this country and I wouldn't mind living elsewhere either.

I've been to the USA twice, it's nice! I went to Florida for the first time, then New York the second time, so typical tourist-y places. I have to say though I preferred New York and in some ways it reminded me a lot of London, except it felt so much bigger and grander. I enjoyed going there but I'm quite glad I live in England. America can be a little strange at times (in reference to the gun laws lmao).

It really depends on where in America you are. the USA is such a large country that each state has it's own mindset/culture (or lack thereof). Things like climate mountains, beaches, deserts vary in every state so it could be hard to get an idea what the country is like unless you spend enough time to travel a few states. The US can very beautiful and very ugly.

I dated an American for a while, and have been over there 3 times, mostly to Maine and the north-east. It's an absolutely beautiful country, and, by and large, the people are friendly.

But on a huge scale, America is so, so messed up. The amount to which religion forms public policy. The huge, institutional problems (racism, gun crime, lack of heathcare) that nobody seems to want to do anything about. The obscene gap between rich and poor.

I'd live there for the geography and climate, but sociologically, it's a mess. It's not as bad as places in Africa and South America - but it thinks it's the best, and it's so wrong it's laughable.

In fact, The Newsroom sums it up rather well. Someone asks a politician is asked "what makes America the greatest nation in the world?", and he responds:

And with a straight face, you're going to tell students that America is so starspangled awesome that we're the only ones in the world who have freedom? Canada has freedom, Japan has freedom, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia, BELGIUM has freedom! Two hundred and seven sovereign states in the world, like 180 of them have freedom.

Just in case you accidentally wander into a voting booth one day, there are some things you should know, and one of them is: There is absolutely no evidence to support the statement that we're the greatest country in the world. We're seventh in literacy, twenty-seventh in math, twenty-second in science, forty-ninth in life expectancy, 178th in infant mortality, third in median household income, number four in labor force, and number four in exports.

We lead the world in only three categories: number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending, where we spend more than the next twenty-six countries combined, twenty-five of whom are allies.

None of this is the fault of a 20-year-old college student, but you, nonetheless, are without a doubt a member of the WORST-period-GENERATION-period-EVER-period, so when you ask what makes us the greatest country in the world, I don't know what the **** you're talking about! Yosemite?

i love that newsroom bit

as an American, yeah Knopekin that is a pretty, spot on analysis.

the regressive right wing politics with the supposed opposition barely teetering toward the center, being far behind a lot of you in other countries in health care and the income gap, our blatant xenophobia and racism problem, our sluggish and embarrassing civil rights record (and as a transgender and physically disabled woman i definitely feel some of it, though the sad thing is, i have a pretty privileged situation compared to a lot of other Americans both like me and not, being at least tolerated by the people around me), the science denial, and well i don't need to tell anyone that's been remotely aware of the last ten years. sure i could live in a worse place, but i could also live somewhere better.

now there's plenty of progressive and good people here, but until more of us get motivated to change things, who knows

as far as geography, diversity, things to do, entertainment, arts, meeting people, my personal life, etc, yeah it's decent.

I voted for "IT'S TERRIBLE I DESPISE IT" because I would rather live in Canada to be honest.

Even if Trump or Sanders becomes president, I'd stay here.

so would most people in this thread tbh

"i'm gonna move to canada if trump becomes president!!!11"

no you ****in' won't.

Only reason I dislike that is that it's, yet again, more of that bull**** "worst generation ever" nonsense that people throw around.
