The idea of having an all cat island is so tempting but I have favorites/dreamies who aren’t cats.

Right now I have: Punchy, Kiki, Merry, Rosie, Raymond, Rudy, Roscoe, Lily (temporary though if I had more room i’d invite her back after i get rid of starter house), Sherb and Dom (temporary).
I still have to invite Ankha and Marshal; was planning on inviting Lolly as well but I won’t have room for her :/

If I had extra room, I’d also invite (in addition to Lolly): Gaston, Dotty, Cole, Moe, Tom, Bob. Even then, there are still so many villagers I want to invite even if just temporary to see if I like them more once I bond with them.

Nope, no plans of getting a 'one species only' island, I mean, it's actually a cool idea, but I prefer to pick my favorite villagers from every species. Don't mind however to have two (or even three) villagers on my island based of the same species.

For a little while I had 3 deer - Zell, Diana and Deirdre. Wasn't planned, just kind of happened. But now my island is mostly mixed. I have Chadder (mouse), Sterling (eagle), Roscoe (horse), Diana, Raymond, Merry, Nana (monkey), Lucky, Wolfgang and Walt (kangaroo).

Merry and Walt are temporary though. I have no idea who to replace them with.

If/when I get a second island, I'd definitely consider an all cat island. But, otherwise, I like diversity!
(that being said, if I didn't have ANY cats, I'd feel really weird )

I do like having pairs of species though! Idk why but I tend to do two of a kind, always have~

I’m going to have a majority deer island sans Lopez and Fuchsia; I need room for Sterling and Audie and Zell+Deirdre are more appealing to me. I’m basing it off of the fairy tale trope of stumbling into a town occupied by enchanted humans transformed into animals (usually of one type)

i wouldn’t mind having an entire island of deer. deers are my favourite animal irl and in-game and so, the deers are very special to me. but while i love them, there’s so many non-deer villagers that i also love so having all deers would be a bit sacrificial aha

No. While it sounds cute in theory the lack of variety can get stale quick. I had a mostly-elephant town in ACNL.

There isn't any species that has enough villagers overall and villagers of every personality type that I like, so no. Cats would probably be the closest to meet those requirements, but with Katt being the only sisterly ... she's just so not my cup of tea.
What I would actually really like (if I ever got myself a second Switch and another copy of the game, so most likely never) would be an island with six sheep, two dogs and two wolves. Maybe five sheep and either three dogs or three wolves as I'm not exactly sure whether Curlos is a cranky or a smug nowadays.

Frogs, ducks and Cubs are so cute! I could easily fill an island with a combo or just one of those. I had an all cub town in New Leaf. However, there is not a single species that doesn't have at least one villager I like so I probably wouldn't ever do it o. New Horizons.

I would love to have an all deer island! I already have Fauna, Diana and Bam, and have had Beau and Fuchsia in the past (I also really want Erik and Bruce eventually!)
But as others have said, the novelty of one species might wear off. Plus I have a lot of non-deer villagers that I love and could never let go.
