Do you have 2+ villagers that are the same species AND personality?

Do you care about the personalities/species of your villagers?

  • Yes! No repeats unless I have to.

  • No, I just care about how they look/whether I like them or not.

  • I just don't care.

I have two wolves (Fang and Audie) and two squirrels (Marshal and Tasha), I wouldn’t want any more duplicates though.

Some repetition doesn’t bother me but sadly I have to lose either Sherb or Erik as their dialogue is identical and driving me nuts :(

I care, I want them to be as different as possible. You can see my signature for my current villagers.

I have two wolf crankies, which is a bit much, but thanks to subtypes they do seem different. Chief is always singing and Lobo is more of a bookworm.

Two out of my three cats are peppies, but they are Tabby and Felicity and very, very different, so it doesn't bother me at all. Originally I had planned on getting Monique, but my heart was already set on Olivia and I figuered that two snooty, glamorous cats with white fur and beauty marks would actually be too much alike. So I picked Felicity instead since she seemed like Monique's less glamorous little sister - probably the best choice I could have made since Felicity turned out to be so lovely and even though Tabby and her share a personality type, they do not seem like the exact same person.
I also have two dogs and two anteaters, but they are a male and a female of each and also don't seem that alike except for the fact that all of them are absolutely beautiful. Guess I just happen to like certain species. As long as my villagers are somewhat distinct from one another, I don't care whether or not I have multiple of the same species and personality.

With all the will in the world to have as many different species as possible and what I think is a pretty diverse range of villagers I like. I love Biff and Rhonda as well as Fauna and Genji, I have ended up with 2 hamsters, 2 deer, and 3 bunnies! But really I just didn’t pay attention. I don’t plan out the villagers I invite, especially when it comes to the campsite and I tend to be tempted to invite almost anyone who shows up. Only 3 of my repeats are villagers I think might be permanent or long term so maybe I will add in a little more variety. None of mine are the same species and same personality.

Contrary to my expectations I like the sisterly and uchi villagers the most, and I can handle having repeats of those, probably even if they were the same species, as long as they looked different enough. Tabby’s does unique I probably wouldn’t mind another peppy cat. But felicity and merry look pretty similar and having them both might be strange (then again, maybe they are sisters? I could probably talk myself into it.)

So...yeah, what I learned is I see the villagers, I like the villagers, I invite the villagers and i don’t really long term plan enough for a consistent personal policy

At first I didn't mind having repeats of personalities... until I had 3 normal villagers. Granted, Nan had a different subtype than Stella and Bea, but maybe it's because I find normals boring in general compared to the other persnalities that I decided to let go of Nan (and soon, Stella). Another repeat I had were 2 peppy villagers, Felicity and Ruby, who have the same subtypes. I love them both and I don't wanna let them go, but it feels like I'm getting bored of both talking about the exact same things djiriekfksk. If worse comes to worst I might just let go of Felicity, but I'll still see about that. Idk if it's just because my friendship level with Felicity is lower, but Ruby has a way more flavorful dialogue than Felicity. Plus, the line with being called "moon _____" when peppies talk about the moon being 285,000 miles away is better with Ruby, since Ruby was technically inspired by the moon rabbit.

I'm revamping 3 or 4 of my villagers (Nan, Stella, Raymond, and maybe Felicity) and replacing them with more males. My first permanent list only had one crank and one lazy, and I wanted some spice so I'll be adding one jock (Genji) and one smug (Shep) to the list to complete the personalities. I'm also having Lily to replace a third villager, and Lily has a different subtype than Bea so it's fine.

As for species, I definitely don't consider this when choosing villagers. I have Ruby and Genji, and Bea and Shep (soon), and I love them all despite being same species with each other.

I currently have 3 wolves, but theyre all different personalities!! :0 I just care about if I can connect with them

I try to avoid having same species on my island but about personalities hmm not too strict about it. At one point I wanted Stitches as my lazy but then he’d be the same as Judy. This is just my preference lol. I replaced him with Sherb since I wanted Judy more than Stitches. On my signature I want to have 3 normals (it’s probably too much tbh) and with the lack of dialogue idk how repetitive it’ll be. I once had 3 smugs and I got a little tired of it but that was probably because I favored the other 2 more.

the 3 normals are my favorites btw and I absolutely love them but if I’d have to cut down it’ll be Tia ;__;

I have Bianca and bangle both tiger peppies. Although technically Bianca is a snow leopard. I also have Nan on my island and hope to acquire Chèvre to go with her someday. So I’m not opposed to having the same species and personalities

I've never worried about this sort of thing tbh, AC villagers may not exactly have deep and unique personalities and characterizations but they still have different designs and hobbies and are different individuals in my book! If I want 2 snooties I'll have 2 snooties, if I want 2 wolves I'll have 2 wolves, and if I want 2 snooty wolves then, of course, I'll have 2 snooty wolves.

The only thing is that I like to have at least one of every personality and can't imagine not having one! This is a rule I've followed in all my NL towns and on my island.

I don't get why the 'yes' option says "no repeats unless I have to".

My answer is yes. Two cranky wolves, because I love them, and don't give a crap about repeats. :)

Wolfgang and Fang. \m/

I voted yes in a poll, since to a degree I care. I want all 8 personalities (which is currently the case) and would prefer to avoid having too many of the same species. Ideally I'd have just 1 of any given species on my island, but currently I have 2 penguins on my island and it'll probably stay that way for awhile. My two penguins are different personalities (lazy and snooty), though.

I happily have two normal squirrels, Sally and Poppy. They each have a different subtype/hobby though, so they seem different enough to me (respectively music and education).

I have 3 jocks right now: Sterling, Rudy & Hamlet. Sterling is the only one that really keeps working out. The others are just wandering around my island and chilling. You wouldn't even think they are jocks unless you talk to them.

Then I have 3 eagles: Sterling, Keaton & Buzz. They have varying personalities and designs, so it's not really a problem for me.
