Do you guys think Town Ordinances should come back?

I was thinking about this last night as I was playing and I was like "huh, I wonder what the people on The Bell Tree think about them putting town ordinances in New Horizons".

I personally would like to see them be added. Especially since I'm more of a night time player, I'd definitely enact a 'night owl' ordinance.

Hmm, I only used the ordinance for flowers so I've never missed ordinances! I can see why you'd want the night owl/early bird (?) one back though.
I guess it's hard to justify in-game how you can set ordinances since you're not the mayor anymore and the villagers are free from our tyranny (not really)

I mean... perhaps but most of them won't actually do much.

Beautiful town is basically obsolete since flowers don't die, and the weed problem is less than in previous games imho. some people even want them as decorations.

Bell Boom is kinda obsolete since we already have the hot item anyways.

Hour Shifts are alright but I don't have too much issue with the current shop hours. Granted, I tend to play in the middle of the day.

Ordinances are something they had in New Leaf. Night Owl/Early Bird ordinances kept the shops open later or earlier, beautiful town had making breeding rare flower colors easier and rarely had litter or something like that and flowers didn't die and Bell ordinances you got more money for selling items.

I'd like the night owl ordinance. It's sometimes frustrating that the shops close when they do. I'd like them to be open later. My ideal would be something like Able Sisters open until 11pm and Nook's Cranny open until midnight.

Yeah what you guys are saying makes absolute sense. I mean flowers don't die and people seem to be able to breed rare colors and everything without an ordinance and yeah with the turnip exchange and everything (and the hot items) make getting bells easy. So the only ordinance that would likely be of some use to some people is the night owl/early bird ordinance. And yeah, we aren't mayors anymore so it would be kind of a wonder how these ordinances would be enacted if they did get added.

I only ever used the beautiful town ordinance to stop flowers dying as much so in that sense I'm personally fine without ordinances but for people who play earlier/later in the day I can see why the ordinance would be useful. we're not mayors so don't really have the same level of control but maybe there could be some sort of way to set when the shops open that sets kind of a vibe for the island? like a night life/party style kind of island or an 'up and at em' kind of island. i dunno.

Definitely the night owl ordinance! I have actually considered just setting the time on my switch back a few hours because I always end up playing later than the shops are open. And then everything is dark and the villagers asleep and all that....

I think if they were added, it'd have to be a somewhat different system. The idea behind ordinances was that we were the Mayor of the town, whereas we're just a Resident Representative on this island. Still, I think it's plausible that the Resident Representative could have that power. Maybe the Resident Representative could make suggestions about how to improve the island's attractiveness, which will be the ordinances (but renamed something else)?

I always liked the Night Owl ordinance because I played late. I think that, and the Early Bird one could be added again. Beautiful Town and Bell Boom could probably be added with some tweaks, though they're not as useful as they once were with New Horizon's new features. Maybe there could be a new ordinance that increases the amount of special visitors you get in a week?

honestly, I want ACNH to put in new stuff instead of porting stuff from prior generations. Something that no one has seen or done before. I want fresh stuff and nothing that I could compare to prior gen.

The idea of a new system sounds good actually. And some new ordinances are even a good idea, since the Beautiful Town and Bell Boom ordinances are more or less obsolete now.

For me they're not necessary anymore. I usually have my system clock running a couple of hours behind, and that keeps my stores open when I want them to be open. I don't need a a Clean Town Ordinance because flowers don't wilt anymore, and I never had any use for the Bell Boom Ordinance. New Horizons has alternate ways to deal with the issues the Town Ordinances dealt with, and I like the new ways better.

I'd be open to a new set of Town Ordinances, though. Any suggestions?

Edit: I've thought of a couple of things that would be neat. What if you could declare your island a crafting island, and your villagers spend more time working on recipes? Or declare a friendship island, where your villagers are more social, and give you more opportunities to build up your friendship with them? Or a nature island, where villagers fish and catch bugs more often, and there are more rare fish and bugs around your island? Just some thoughts.

I think ordinances like the early bird and night owl would be great for people who can't play while the stores are open.
If they do come back, I'd like to see some new ones to replace the ones that wouldn't be as useful like the beautiful town one.

I'd be up for some new/updated ordinances that work more for this game for Isabelle and some new PWP projects for Nook to give.

Like ask Nook "what's next" and Nook as an idea for a new project but needs the supplies like you had to for Nook's Cranny. Then after that you get it added to Nook Miles as a reward to purchase and place.

i wouldn’t mind if they came back! i only really used the beautiful town ordinance just so my flowers wouldn’t wilt but since that doesn’t happen anymore, i’d especially love for the night-owl ordinance to come back to cater to my ridiculous sleeping schedule and how i typically don’t have energy until like,, after midnight lmao

Anything that keeps Nooks open later would be a win. Not sure they’d bother adding that feature since they installed the drop off box though?
