Do you ever feel guilty when using your TBT on the marketplace for things like in game bells or furniture? Do you think it's cheating? I just wanna know everyone's perspective on this type of thing.
-I personally think that it's totally fine to do this, as you spent time earning the bells here, so it's just like earning whatever you need in game, just a bit faster and more fun
-Also, it's not like the game is over when getting these things you want. Theres still so many other things you can focus on, like landscaping, gardening, getting badges, ect.
It does feel a little dirty to me, especially buying villagers, but then again, so does tting. I think that I feel that way because it makes the game seem easier and therefore less genuine when you can just have nearly anything you want in it at any time.
This is just a personal thought to andwer your question. I buy a lot of stuff for tbt and don?t have anything against it!
I remember selling 100 tbt for 20,000,000 igb so I can get the billionaire badge. But the 80 million I had in the bank before then was very much hard earned from bug hunting, sleepless nights grinding for them after midnight, coming home from 12 hour+ work days. So I think I definitely deserved to go easy for the last little bit! Lol. I earned those bells before I knew of these forums. I took quite a long hiatus from my town after being so burnt out from bug hunting and doing everything by myself. But then the Welcome Amiibo update rejuvenated my interest and then I found the forums. I never even thought about playing this way with the ac community because of how paranoid I was that people would destroy my town. But we have the rating system here which put me at ease. And I realized how much easier the game was with the help of the community. It took some getting used to, buying from shops with tbt. At the time, I thought tbt was pointless. And I wanted to get the badge and yet I was dreading spending more sleepless nights on the island bug hunting. And when I found out the conversion rate, I eventually opened a shop selling tbt for igb. One person decided to buy 100tbt and that earned me enough for my badge. I haven't sold any since. I think I have enough bells to last me the life time of my town lol.
Tldr: I don't consider it cheating, especially if you've already suffered through the grind. Once you have a certain amount of igb and you can stop worrying about grinding, you can focus so much more on the fun stuff like decorating your houses, landscaping, etc. Back then, I felt like my playtime always just consisted of bug hunting and plot resetting. Lol
Exactly me!! I've also just restarted my town for like the fifth time, and after countless hours of grinding in those previous ones, it's nice to have a fresh start and not need to worry about grinding with bells. I can now focus on other things like landscaping, and collecting different items.
I don't necessarily think it's cheating, but buying IGB isn't something I would personally do because then I wouldn't feel like I earned the badge myself. I have traded for items that I could not get on my own, like DLC or items that never showed up in my town after playing for over a year. I don't feel any guilt about those purchases because I never would have been able to get those items otherwise. Plus, I think Nintendo wants us to trade and interact with others. They encourage it by having item sets that make it more difficult to find certain things in your own town. They also reward you for the interactions with badges for traveling and train station remodels. So I think trading is a valid part of the game and if the party I'm trading with prefers to receive TBT, there's nothing wrong with that. It's still a mutually beneficial trade.
I think I did TBT for furniture, but never for Bells. But those two things never did make me feel guilty.
I also did TBT for villagers however, and when I sold them for TBT, it made me feel guilty because villagers feel like a kind of thing you’d sell with bells. Plus the fact that everyone else sold villagers with TBT as well.
It also feels like a cheap way of making TBT. As I believe selling collectibles and art are the more viable way to obtain TBT.
I personally have no qualms about using tbt to buy furniture. There are some things on here that i'd have no other way of getting by just playing normally. I've never bought igb though but i don't think i'll ever need to? I have more of an issue with buying villagers for tbt I guess? I liked that I had that option when my campsite wasn't finished yet but also i feel kind of weird about it? I mean i'll probably still buy a villager in the future but it just feels kinda weird i guess )))
I think it’s within animal crossing spirit to make trades with others for certain furniture, especially those that cannot be acquired unless trading with players of other regions. The bell tree is a animal crossing community so I don’t think it’s such a bad thing to use another virtual currency to buy other virtual items. In the end it connects us all to play the game. I don’t sell villagers for tbt though. It just feels weird ahaha.
I don't see a problem with buying furniture from people especially RV furniture from the RV Welcome Amiibo cards since those are pretty hard to obtain, I think it's a good way to possibly find items you might never really be able to come across other wise
But for igb I do feel a little guilty about it, I don't care about the money badges since I'm not buying igb for that, and all the bells I do buy go into trying to get my town a little more done like upgrading homes, buying items from gracie, or paying off pwps.
No. It's obvious Nintendo intended for you to trade. Otherwise, why would they have region specific holidays and DLC? If they didn't want us to "trade" villagers, then they could've easily made it so someone from another town couldn't talk to a villager in boxes and ask them to come to their town. They did that on purpose.
Sure, Nintendo probably expects you to trade items or IGB for these things, but I don't really see TBT as any different. You're just agreeing to trade a different thing.
What others have said, I do not feel guilty about gettin items for tbt, IGB, other times ect... The items I ask for are items I am unable to get on my own, despite playing since day 1. I only ever got a mobile hotspot a year or so ago, and WiFi a week or two ago. I was never able to travel to other towns to celebrate their holidays with them, nor was I able to invite people to my town. The only thing I ask for that I can get are white carnations, because I don't really have much time not space to breed them in Moriyo rn.
The villagers, I don't feel guilty but eh, idk it's hard to describe. I WANT to get them natrually, but again, since day 1 I have been unable to, and it's not because of lack of WiFi. Do you know how, long it took me to get Wolfgang and Tutu? 7 or 8 years in game, maybe 6 irl. Punchy? 7 years irl. Pekoe? NEVER. In all l my 7+ years of ACNL, never have I ever got Pekoe. So, yeah I don't feel guilty about gettin them with tbt, even if I wanted to.
I mean, im okay with it.
Villagers? Depends how urgent i need that specific villager. Purrl has the same birthday as me so why not get her early.
Tbt trading for furniture, it's fine. Like DJStarstyker said, Some items are like DLC.
One thing I forgot to talk about in my post was about villager trading. I don?t have an issue with this. Like others have said, the Amiibo cards can be hard to get and/or expensive. Now, I haven?t been on that forum in years, but it doesn?t seem to me like people want IGB. At least, not very many... I could be totally wrong, however. Either way, TBT is a fictional currency. It seems silly to feel guilty over that.
I love that we have the ability and it isn?t ?cheating? to me. But I definitely know first hand that sometimes it?s possible to buy toooooo much with tbt especially in the earlier stages of the game. I actually reset an entire town because I felt I had gone too far and honestly lost all interest in it after buying so many villagers/items/bells.
I?m going absolutely hog wild right now though with buying items because I?m very near the end of having one of my towns finished and getting that final DA to post permanently! I just need certain furniture that is very hard to get without trading otherwise i?d Have to buying amiibo cards that I simply can?t afford. I do prefer to buy the amiibo?s for villagers instead of buying with tbt however. But that?s just a personal thing.
Also I?m for sure lazy at this point after grinding in my very first town for 2 years to slowly gain bells and in the new ones I just don?t have the patience so I do buy igb every once in awhile to top up.
Not quite - there are certain items you can only obtain with certain versions of the game of course! Personally I did not start trading until late game, due to a lack of connection. I do not see a problem with trading for general items at an earlier stage as well however. You have to keep in mind some of these items technically take 5+ years to collect... such as the New Year's ornaments. Not everyone wants to time travel as well, so if someone is willing to and is selling the item, that is likely how you are going to get it haha. Not everyone has the time to play the game and collect everything too, so if they end up missing a piece of furniture that is only available for so long, trading is very helpful. I will say that doing trades 100% for all event furniture does seem like an un-fun aspect since they are such a large part of this game.
they never make me feel guilty. personally, i find playing ac a lot more fun and relaxing even with the help of a community to help me achieve my goals! my town would be absolutely nowhere had i not used the forum and its currency over the years. o think it?s a good system and doesn?t count as cheating.
Nope. I never felt guilty when trading TBT for furniture. Don't think anyone should feel guilty for using TBT to get furniture and other things. There were lots of items I couldn't get due to not having the amiibo cards and figures. A lot of these items from the amiibo cards and figures are really nice looking. It's really cool that there are others who have access to these things and can sell you the items that you need. I wouldn't have been able to accomplish building my town the way that I wanted if I hadn't bought things with TBT.
lmfao kinda!
thats why i try to give my stuff for free instead (well not with furniture now because im tryna get me some arts)
same with villagers
many people have done it for me in the community so it just always felt right to me doing that. i literally have my beach covered in clovers & jacob ladders from people coming in & just giving it to me.
it just feels right to just give it to someone when they need it because eventually they'll have your back.
im about to close the store i have in retail soon just because i want to give things away instead of selling them for tbt.
i dont ask for igb because i have enough. i end up giving that to my friends too.
I feel like I see where OP is bringing up this "guilty" from. I guess it could feel that way because it's comparatively easier, to earn tbt bells, than earning items/bells by in-game activity? So, for example. Just by talking/typing in this discussion, I earned 11 tbt, while you only need to pay 2-3 tbt to buy RV exclusive or unorderable item. If it was like you need to go through more effort to earn tbt bells, there wouldn't have been a reason to feel "guilty" for trading it to items, I assume?
So, I think, the point is so, not in "trading" but in unbalanced price/exchange rate, which came from same old topic hack.
And about buying villagers. According to my best friend, Villager Trading Plaza it's "Slavery Market", which both gave me a good laugh and also very felt understandable. I usually don't buy villagers, but there were a couple times that I had to for my friends/family due to time thing. Y'know, the risk of spot being taken by random moveins. And I feel it guilty those times. But not from buying them for forum bells. Even if it was for in-game bells or trading for some folks I have, it'd feel the same to me, while I know it's one of good options, especially when you're not the one for time travelling. So... it would've been cool, if people were not selling villagers but giving them away to those who desire them.
