Ive only had one once. It was okay, but I didn't eat the yolk.

yes I love the crumbliness of the yolk its a satisfying texture B)

I bought one today near my house for $4 CAD, I feel like it's slightly cheaper in Chinatown though.

But anyways, I don't really like the yolk... I'll eat it... but I don't like it. I LOOOVE lotus paste though <3

Same.

I love moon cakes... I should buy some.
The yolk is my fave part lel, mooncakes also taste gr8 with milk.

I don't like mooncake in general. I tried it multiple times from my local asian food shop but I always end up having stomach ache afterwards. Also, I find them to be quite expensive with ?23,50 for 4.

Moon cake sounds delicious, I've never had it though. But there's an asian market I go to where I live, and it's a really cool market, it has paper dragons and goldfish hanging from the roof- asian markets are so much cooler than white people markets (sorry its true lol) anyways, i saw near the bakery section while I was looking at all their amazing desserts, a big sign that says "MoonCake" i've heard of it but I've never actually had it, I always see them in the story but I don't actually even know what it looks like because it doesn't have an image of what it is on the box, but it does have a nice package, it's multiple colours it comes in and theres ribbons and flowers. wow.

man, search up "moon cake" They're beautiful, my mother just told me they taste great but- everybody is different about it, but they're BEAUTIFUL i can understand why they're so overpriced.

I've never had one :p but tbh I prob would try the yolk and if I didn't like it I'd just scrap it out :p

They're most likely expensive because they are celebratory/seasonal foods! Like buying a nice birthday cake :) (except you can only buy it during a specific time of the year). They are a traditional delicacy and used even religiously, so definitely would not be sold for cheap.

It's funny because "what's mooncake???" got the most votes :p Like most people, I don't really know what it is and I haven't tried it before. But I rarely eat the yolk in my egg so I probably wouldn't eat that.

I'm not Chinese or Taiwanese but I'm Vietnamese ^^. Moon cakes do play a huge role in our culture.

I really like moon cakes especially the greeny purply flavour. The yolk is a bit salty and I don't think it's even egg, so ew, I'm giving it to my grandma! In my opinion, Australian mooncakes are too expensive...

i never heard of mooncakes until this thread. ive had many filipino friends give me hopia over the years, but didnt know they are technically mooncakes- and no egg in those. went this week to my chinese grocer, they had a box of malaysian mooncakes, which were small spherical pastries, very much like hopia, yam/lotus seed filling, no egg. bit bland. they said they were out of chinese mooncakes, but i convinced them to give me one packaged mooncake of three they were holding for somebody. it was i guess the classic modern style, with chinese writing imprinted on the top, very thick rich filling, duck egg(?) in the middle. i was the only one in the house who would eat it! ha- the salty egg definitely doesnt go well with the rest of the filling. I guess tradition is tradition though, right?
